Movie Morsels: Next STAR TREK Movie Title Announced & More

We’ve got plenty of goodness for you in Movie Morsels on this last day of June, starting with the long-awaited title of the next Star Trek film. Plus, brand-new super-powered footage from Ant-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men: Days of Future Past (The Rogue Cut), word on how you can see five minutes of Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, and news on Daniel Radcliffe’s next film!

Star Trek 3

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a title! The third Star Trek film since Bad Robot rebooted (or continued, depending on how you look at it) Paramount’s venerable space adventure will be called… Star Trek Beyond. While I expect the new title will be greeted with many of the same sneers of derision that met Star Trek Into Darkness — and a whole lotta “Beyond what?” — I’m just looking forward to seeing what Simon Pegg does with the script of the first Trek film directed by Justin Lin. The veteran Fast & Furious helmer revealed the title, as well as a photo of the latest iteration of Starfleet uniform, via Twitter. The thirteeth film in the franchise, Star Trek Beyond opens on July 8, 2016.

Fantastic Four

Despite the groanworthiness of its “Shall I alert the fire department?” the latest TV spot for Fantastic Four shows more of the titular foursome’s powers than we’ve yet seen, particularly Mister Fantastic/Reed Richard’s stretching abilities. Directed by Josh Trank and starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan, Fox’s Fantastic Four will try its best to blow our minds on August 7th.

Ant-Man

Judging by the latest Ant-Man TV spot, Michael Pena is gonna steal the show as Scott Lang’s hilarious fellow ex-con Luis. But there’s still plenty of action on-hand for all you adrenaline junkies, as well as the suggestion of romance (or is that anti-romance?) between Paul Rudd’s title character, and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne. Directed by Peyton Reed, Marvel’s Ant-Man arrives on July 17th.

X-Men: Days of Future Past — The Rogue Cut

Still want more new Marvel movie footage? How about a deleted scene from X-Men: Days of Future Past that resurfaces in the film’s upcoming Rogue Cut? Bryan Singer’s alternate version of the latest and greatest X-Men movie hits Blu-ray on July 14th. While the next chapter in the director’s mutant screen saga, X-Men: Apocalypse, debuts on May 27, 2016.

As a bonus, fans who buy the Blu-ray at next week’s Comic-Con will get to see The Rogue Cut on the big screen on July 11th at Reading Cinema in San Diego.

Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation

If you can’t wait to see the latest chapter in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible saga, Paramount is happy to further whet you appetite with five minutes of the Christopher McQuarrie-directed Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation (debuting on July 31st) screening before the studio’s Terminator Genisys in IMAX theaters starting tomorrow, July 1st. Here’s a new video spot announcing the promotion…

Swiss Army Man

Daniel Radcliffe

Last but not least today, we’ve got word on Daniel Radcliffe’s next film project. The former Harry Potter star will join actors Paul Dano and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Swiss Army Man, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, billed collectively as Daniels and best known for helming the recent “Turn Down For What” video. The comedy-drama, which starts shooting in July, concerns “a hopeless man stranded in the wilderness who befriends a dead body; together, they go on a surreal journey to get home.”
