Movie Morsels: New Songs for Live-Action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, a New INSIDE OUT Clip, and More

Welcome back to your work week, America. Let’s start this Monday off with fresh footage from the mucho anticipated Jurassic World and a video introduction to Ridley Scott and Matt Damon’s The Martian, hosted by the latter’s character. Plus, new clips from Inside Out and Minions, and the first word on the two new songs in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Best from composer Alan Menken himself!

Jurassic World

No, it’s not just another trailer for Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, it’s the film’s final trailer, features some footage we’ve not yet seen, including more of Chris Pratt interacting with the CG raptors. Jurassic World debuts on June 12, and co-stars Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Spider-Man 3), Ty Simpkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3), Jake Johnson (Let’s Be Cops, New Girl), Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summer), Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man), Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil, Law & Order: Criminal Intent), BD Wong (Jurassic Park, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Intouchables), Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Tomorrowland), Katie McGrath (NBC’s Dracula, Merlin), Lauren Lapkus (Blended, The To Do List) and Andy Buckley (Bridesmaids, The Other Guys).

The Martian

Well, this is interesting… Dispensing with the usual teaser trailer, Fox has unveiled actor Matt Damon in an introductory video for Sir Ridley Scott’s The Martian, offering background on his astronaut character’s mission, as well as that of his shipmates, played by Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael Pena, and Jessica Chastain. The Martian finds Damon’s astronaut stranded on Mars and desperately searching for a way home. Also starring Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover, the film debuts November 25th.

Inside Out

We’ve seen quite a bit of what’s going on in the head of Inside Out‘s young heroine Riley. But in the latest clip from director Pete Docter’s Pixar animated film, we get to see the emotions living inside Riley’s mother’s head. Debuting on June 19th, Inside Out features the voices of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, and Phyllis Smith as Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness. I’ve seen the first hour of the film at Pixar’s HQ a few months back, and if the remaining half hour is as good as what I saw, it will easily be the studio’s best since Toy Story 3.

Minions

Want more animation? Oookay… Here’s the latest clip from Minions, which sees the titular yellow critters hitching a ride to Villain Con in Orlando, Florida. Directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda and starring Sandra Bullock as the voice of the film’s central villain Scarlet Overkill, Minions arrives on July 10th.

Beauty and the Beast

Wondering about the two new songs to be featured in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. The original animated film’s composer Alan Menken, who’s also scoring the new version, has opened up. Speaking at New York’s Lincoln Center, Menken remarked, “It’s the songs from the movie, we did not fit in any songs [from the Broadway show]. The song I would have fit in from the Broadway show is ‘If I Can’t Love Her,’ but the Beast’s moment in the film is a much later moment, it would not be ‘if I can’t love her,’ it’s ‘I love her but -damn it- I’m letting her go.’ That lyric wouldn’t really work with that music. So we wrote another song called ‘Forever More,’ like ‘I now know what love is.’ There’s another song called ‘Days in the Sun’ which is a lullaby as all the objects and characters living in the castle are going to sleep they’re all singing about remembering before the spell. I think it’s gonna be a wonderful movie.”

Director Bill Condon’s film opens on March 17, 2017, and features Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, and Stanley Tucci as a new character, the grand piano Cadenza.
