Minions

Fellow Despicable Me fans, we’ve got ourselves a third trailer for Illumination’s spinoff/prequel Minions. Exploring the origins of the lovable little yellow critters, Minions boasts a soundtrack chock fulla ’60s pop tunes and finds Kevin, Stuart, and Bob encountering the evil Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock) as they fight to save their race from extinction. Minions debuts on July 10th.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Bryan Singer has been hitting Instagram hard lately, teasing images from next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. On Wednesday the director released an image of a uniformed hunting party with the cryptic caption “The past catches up”…

The past catches up. #Xmen #XMenApocalypse

And just yesterday Singer revealed a “a mutant guided incoming owl” that looks to be gliding through the same forest depicted in the previous day’s image. Hmmm… Any guesses as to which hero or villain is guiding that owl?

X-Men: Apocalypse — starring Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and a plethora of new mutant faces — is out on May 27, 2016.

Tomorrowland

And your Tomorrowland clips for today focus on… unsurprisingly hi-tech jet packs and a surprisingly high-tech pin. Britt Robertson, George Clooney, and Hugh Laurie star in the Brad Bird-directed film based on the Disney theme park attraction, which arrives on May 22nd. Enjoy!

The fifth Terminator film, starring Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Emilia Clarke, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, lands on July 1st.

Shanghai Dawn

Shanghai Knights

MGM’s Shanghai Noon series is now officially set to become a trilogy with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson confirmed to return to their roles as the Wild West’s most mismatched gunslingers. Shanghai Dawn is currently looking for writers to pen this third adventure of Chon Wang and Roy O’Bannon, their first since 2003’s Shanghai Knights.

The Blob

Having proved his usefulness against snakes, Hydra, and various forms of non-reptilian evil, Samuel L. Jackson is ready to tackle the amorphous menace of The Blob in director Simon West’s new remake of the 1950s alien invasion thriller starring Steve McQueen (which was first remade as Chuck Russell’s 1988 cult favorite). Jackson will play “a biochemistry professor attempting to thwart the other-worldly predator discovered deep within the Earth.” It sounds like this Blob will take its cue from another classic monster movie, The Thing.

Underworld 5

Underworld

It’s the sequel you didn’t know you wanted and may still not want. But hey, at least it marks the first time a woman has helmed an Underworld film. Yes, Underworld 5 will have Kate Beckinsale back in black leather and will be directed by franchise newcomer Anna Foerster, who served as director of photography on White House Down. Beckinsale’s Underworld: Awakening co-star Theo James will also return. Production starts this October in Prague.

Top Secret Untitled Lonely Island Movie

Lonely Island

Finally today… Production begins this week on the first-ever feature film starring comedy troupe Lonely Island, comprised of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone. Schaffer and Taccone will direct the film, which is said to be set in the music world, for producer Judd Apatow. “I have begged these fine gentlemen to allow me to produce one of their films since day one,” says the producer, “and finally they decided my whining needed to come to an end.” “Not to be hyperbolic, but we are seriously zazzed about this movie,” says Lonely Island. Just so long as Justin Timberlake and/or Michael Bolton put in an appearance, I’ll be happy.
