Movie Morsels: New Heroes Confirmed for AVENGERS: AGE OF UTRON, SUICIDE SQUAD’s Boss Announced, and More

Yesterday’s Avengers: Age of Ultron poster reveals some intriguing new details about Joss Whedon’s anxiously awaited sequel. Details we’ve got in today’s Movie Morsels, along with new cast member confirmations for Suicide Squad and The Huntsman, the latest on Terminator Genisys, and more!

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Those who looked at the fine print on yesterday’s new Avengers: Age of Ultron poster may have noticed a couple of new cast members added to the mix of already announced actors. Those who are already missing Agent Carter after last night’s season finale can take heart knowing the two-fisted S.H.I.E.L.D. co-founder will appear in Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel, as played by Hayley Atwell, along with Captain America: The Winter Soldier favorite Anthony Mackie as the high-flying Falcon, Idris Elba as Thor’s Asgardian buddy Heimdall, and Stellan Skarsgard playing Dr. Erik Selvig for the fourth time. The most intriguing addition, however, may be that of composer Danny Elfman, who’s credited with “Additional Music.” Since we’re still wondering if it’s possible for Marvel’s newly acquired Spider-Man to appear in the film, Elfman’s name could be a clue — since he scored the wall-crawler’s first two films (for director Sam Raimi). Avengers: Age of Ultron unleashes hell on May 1st.

Suicide Squad

Viola Davis

It’s official — Viola Davis will definitely be playing the Suicide Squad‘s ruthless recruiter Amanda Waller. The How to Get Away with Murder star confirmed she’ll appear in David Ayer’s DCU film (replacing Green Lantern‘s Angela Bassett) on the red carpet of Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony.

Terminator Genisys

terminator-2-arnie

The unfortunately titled Terminator Genisys won’t be out until July 1st, but franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger is already saying “I’ll be back” for the reboot’s sequel, arriving on May 19, 2017 (with a third film scheduled for June 29, 2018). Director Alan Taylor’s film co-stars Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung Hun Lee and Matt Smith.

The Hunstman

Jessica Chastain

The red-hot Jessica Chastain has just signed on to star in director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan’s prequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, featuring the original film’s Chris Hemsworth in the title role and Charlize Theron as the wicked queen Ravenna. No word yet on who Chastain will play, but she’ll be joined by the already announced Emily Blunt. After starring in four films last year — The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them, A Most Violent Year (pictured above), Miss Julie, and Interstellar — Chastain will next appear in Ridley Scott’s The Martian and Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak. The Huntsman, with a screenplay by Frank Darabont (who was originally slated to direct the film), arrives on April 22, 2016.

Lost in the Pacific

Brandon Routh

Brandon Routh has been winning a legion of new fans with his role as Ray Palmer (a.k.a. The Atom) on TV’s Arrow. Now the former Superman is heading back to the big screen in a sci-fi thriller described as “Titanic in the Sky.” (Didn’t Archer already do that?) Director Vincent Zhou’s Lost in the Pacific boasts an international cast, headlined by Routh and China’s Zhang YuQi (CJ7), for its tale of “2020’s inaugural luxury, transoceanic flight.” Production begins in England in the spring for a 3D release next year.

Typo in title. There’s an L in Ultron

  2. FargoGeek says:

I think Viola Davis is a great choice for Amanda Waller.  Although I was hoping C.C.H. Pounder would get the role.

  3. Jason says:

I want to know who’s the guy in the cape flying up in the background of the Avengers poster.

  4. RogerB says:

Athe curse of auto-correct; awkward sentences. “the two-fisted S.H.I.E.L.D. co-founded will appear”. I believe you meant “co-founder”.
