Movie Morsels: New DEADPOOL Images, CRIMSON PEAK Comic-Con Posters, and More

Comic-Con 2015 is almost upon us, and we’ve got a grab bag of goodies in today’s Movie Morsels that you can enjoy whether you’re attending this year’s Nerd Prom or not. Between new promo images for Deadpool and four new character posters from Crimson Peak, there’s plenty of eye candy. Plus, yet another new clip from Ant-Man, some more Fantastic Four footage, a first look at Pixar’s Sanjay’s Super Team, a Trainwreck featurette, and more!

Deadpool

If you thought all you’d see of Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth this week was yesterday’s first official look at Deadpool‘s Negasonic Teenage Warhead, think again. Entertainment Weekly has a variant cover for its Comic-Con issue featuring the Fox film, and we’ve got two new promo images as well…

It’s possible that first promo image is a poster that will debut at Comic-Con. No panel has been officially confirmed for Deadpool yet, but fans are speculating one will appear during the Fox presentation on Saturday, July 11th, the centerpiece of which will be Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. In any case, Deadpool hits the big screen on February 12, 2016.

Ant-Man

Is it July 17th yet? It’s not? Well then, I guess we’ll just have to show you another clip from Ant-Man. Director Peyton Reed’s take on Marvel’s tiny titan stars Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Pena, and, of course, Paul Rudd as ex-con Scott Lang. In the following scene, Lang carries out the heist through which he acquires his supersuit.

Fantastic Four

Hey, speaking of new Marvel movie footage… Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot has itself another TV spot. Like the previous spots we’ve seen, there isn’t a line spoken by the film’s heroes that isn’t a cliche. But since most big-budget film trailers are like that, and since we get to see a little bit more of Mister Fantastic’s stretching ability here, I’m willing to withhold doubt. Still, as a lifelong fan of the classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comic book, it will always be weird for me to hear someone refer to all four of the titular team’s members as “kids”.

Fantastic Four opens on August 7th.

As a little bonus Fantastic Four fun, here’s the TV commercial for Denny’s new “Thing Burger” (which one hopes will not be served as rock-hard as its namesake)…

Sanjay’s Super Team

And while we’re talking super teams, Pixar’s giving us one to cheer in its next animated short, Sanjay’s Super Team, which will precede The Good Dinosaur in theaters on November 25th. Directed by Sanjay Patel, an animator on the studio’s Toy Story 2, The Incredibles, and Monsters, Inc., it’s arguably the studio’s most autobiographical film, since it’s based on the filmmaker’s own experience as a superhero-loving Indian American boy growing up in California, who, in the context of its story, finds himself calling on the powers of three Hindu deities: “the monkey-like Hanuman, the goddess of power and protection Durga, and the blue-skinned Vishnu, who represents preservation.”

Here are the just-released first images…

Trainwreck

With all the buzz surrounding it, it’s hard to believe the Judd Apatow-directed, Amy Schumer-starring Trainwreck hasn’t opened in theaters yet. But, until the film arrives on July 17th, those of us who haven’t seen it at film festivals will just have to be satisfied with a new behind-the-scenes featurette featuring its director and star…

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2

Last but not least… In case you missed it, we’ve got ourselves a whopping eight new character posters for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2, all of which will debut at this week’s Comic-Con; featuring Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Primrose (Willow Shields), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Whiny-Load Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Boggs (Mahershala Ali), Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Johanna (Jena Malone), and Finnick (Sam Clafin). The Francis Lawrence-directed final film in Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling series bows on November 20th.
