Movie Morsels: First Look at Negasonic Teenage Warhead in DEADPOOL

Lots of news and video to leak out of ol’ Hollyweird this fine April weekend, folks. So let’s get you up to speed with today’s Movie Morsels. We’ve got some very cool new pics from the sets of Deadpool and Creed, casting news for Star Trek 3 and J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts, and a new TV spot and clip for Tomorrowland and John Green’s Paper Towns!

Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds continues to be every fanboy’s best friend. The Deadpool star just tweeted the first pic of actress Brianna Hildebrand as the film’s teen telepath/precog Negasonic Teenage Warhead (created by Grant Morrison for his fondly remembered New X-Men), and she looks every bit as angsty as a young mutant should. Deadpool — directed by Tim Miller and co-starring TJ Miller, Gina Carano, Morena Baccarin, and Ed Skrein — lands on February 12, 2016.

Thanks to some set photos we’ve also gotten a peek at Wade Wilson’s scarred face and some shots of the Merc’ with a Mouth in action.

Star Trek 3
Sofia Boutella
The third film in Paramount’s new Star Trek series has just signed on its first new star, Sofia Boutella, who turned heads as Samuel Jackson’s righthand woman in Kingsman: The Secret Service. Boutella’s role has not yet been disclosed, but it’s nice to see the Justin Lim-directed, Simon Pegg and Doug Jung-scripted film is finally warping forward for its July 8, 2016 release date. Fantastic Beasts
Eddie Redmayne
Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne is the favorite to star as Newt Scamander, the protagonist of the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Set seven decades before the series, Rowling describes Fantastic Beasts as “neither a prequel nor a sequel to the ‘Harry Potter’ series but an extension of the wizarding world.” The David Yates-directed film is due on November 18, 2016. Tomorrowland
During this weekend’s MTV Movie Awards, Disney has unveiled yet another TV spot for Brad Bird and Damon Lindeloff’s Tomorrowland, arriving on May 22nd.

Creed
Heads up, Rocky fans! The Italian Stallion is back on the big screen November 25th in Creed, the spinoff film in which Rocky Balboa (played by the inimitable Sylvester Stallone) trains Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordon), the son of his late friend Apollo Creed. Sly took to Instagram to share the first official pic from the film, which co-stars Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, and real-life boxing champ Anthony Bellew. Ryan Coogler, who worked with Jordan in his breakthrough film Fruitvale Station, directs and co-writes the film. Gotta admit, it’ll be refreshing to see someone other than Stallone oversee a film featuring Balboa for a change (it hasn’t happened since 1990’s Rocky V). Hopefully, it will bring some new ideas into the former boxer’s world. And Jordan is a fantastic choice for Apollo’s son.

Paper Towns

YA author John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars made a big splash last summer in Fox’s film adaptation, so the studio is understandably keen to repeat its success with another Green-penned tale of young romance, Paper Towns. Directed by Jake Schreier and starring Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne, the movie arrives debuts on July 24th. Here’s its first clip, which unspooled before the MTV Movie Awards.
