Movie Morsels: Maisie Williams to Battle Cannibals in THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH

Today we’re having our first big celebration of Halloween 2015 (or, as we like to call it, Nerdoween) here at Movie Morsels HQ, with news on Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams‘ transition into post-apocalyptic big-screen terror, along with the first photos from the set of The Conjuring 2 and the poster for The Final Girls. Plus, our first glimpse of Emma Watson in The Circle and a new viral video for The Martian!

The Forest of Hands and Teeth

Maisie Williams

Our little Arya is all grown up! Following up her recent turn in Doctor Who, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams is in talks to star in The Forest of Hands and Teeth, an adaptation of Carrie Ryan’s New York Times bestselling YA novel about “a world where most of the human race has been taken by a bloodthirsty virus that leaves them roaming the planet as cannibals.” Williams would play Mary, a girl who seeks “a world beyond the fenced-off village of survivors.” Naturally, the survival of mankind depends on her success in guiding a gang of survivors through the titular forest. Hey, I’d rather see Williams battle cannibals than Chloe Moretz battle aliens. Writer-director Kate Maberly scripts, helms, and produces, along with Doug Liman.

Says Maberly, “I am so incredibly excited to be stepping into the Forest and collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug’s. We can’t wait to bring Ryan’s fantastical world to life and are absolutely thrilled to have Maisie on board.”

New Line released another pic from the first shooting day, this one of the priest they invited to come bless the set…

Hilarious. William Castle would be proud… The Conjuring 2 features Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, again as paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren, along with franchise newcomer Frances O’Connor. The film’s title is rumored to be The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. It arrives on June 10, 2016.

The Final Girls

For more horror-comedy from the Farmiga family, we’ve got the poster for The Final Girls, featuring Vera’s little sis Taissa as a high school student transported into an ’80s horror film that starred (and claimed) her mom, played by Malin Akerman. Co-starring Adam DeVine, Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, Alexander Ludwig, Nina Dobrev, Chloe Bridges, and Angela Trimbur — and directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson — The Final Girls arrives on on October 9 for limited release and on demand.

The Martian

Finally today… Yet another “in world” video from The Martian, Ridley Scott’s acclaimed new tale of a lone astronaut, played by Matt Damon, who finds himself stranded on Mars. This one focuses on the world’s efforts to bring Damon’s character home…

Seriously, between Saving Private Ryan and this film, haven’t we done enough to try to rescue Matt Damon? Why can’t he just stay the hell out of trouble?! Anyway, based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, and co-starring Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, The Martian lands on October 2nd.
