No need to wait for Friday for Christmas! Not with the presents we have for you in today’s Movie Morsel. Check out Kurt Russell’s thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy 2, a new poster for Zoolander 2, a new Deadpool video, the latest on Avatar 2, and more!
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
There is no actor more perfectly suited to playing Peter Quill’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 than Kurt Russell. This is not opinion. This is undeniable fact. So it’s great to hear Russell has begun talking to director James Gunn about playing some kind of role in the film, even if he doesn’t know what that role will be just yet.
âI literally got a phone call two days ago about this,â says Russell. âIâve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy so I donât know anything about it. Many times Iâve heard âThatâs a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.â I donât know it! So, I didnât realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, âThank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I canât bring anything for you [right now]. Iâve got nothing to offer here. So, Iâm amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do… itâs a little weird.”
Fingers crossed that Russell finds time to watch Guardians this holiday season and accepts his destiny as the Papa Quill.
Zoolander 2
Not to be outdone in the poster department, February 12’s Zoolander 2 is giving us the, er, feels. Peep a striking new image of stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Penelope Cruz as they race into action to save the world’s most beautiful people from certain doom.
Avatar 2
James Cameron has just reconfirmed Avatar 2‘s release and shooting date in a new interview with the Montreal Gazette while promoting Avatar‘s new Cirque du Soleil show, titled Toruk â The First Flight.
âChristmas of â17 is the target,â the filmmaker says. âAt least, thatâs what weâve announced. But I donât consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart. I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies. Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story. We have design more or less finished, which is an enormous task. Itâs been about a two-year task. [Weâve finished] all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done. Infrastructure. So weâre really poised to start after the first of the year.”
Deadpool
