Movie Morsels: Jesse Eisenberg on His “Not Silly” Lex Luthor, Another Star Returns for BOURNE 5

It’s just another manic Monday here at Movie Morsels. And it’s manic in all the right ways! We’ve got a new interview with actor Jesse Eisenberg on his role as a certain shiny-scalped supervillain in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Plus, new photos from Ant-Man, two new Pixels featurettes, the trailer for Gillian Flynn and Charlize Theron’s Dark Places, and word on the latest actor to return to the Bourne frachise!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Just what kind of Lex Luthor will Jesse Eisenberg be in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel? According to the actor, he’ll very much be the no-nonsense kind. The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star speaks about his role in a new video interview with MTV, which you can watch below.

“The expectations that I have are never the same expectations that an audience has,” says Eisenberg. “I don’t have expectations for myself to adhere to a comic book character, but a lot of people are interested in how I would coincide with the comic book character. But it couldn’t be farther from my mind, because I’m just playing a role… It’s a really great character that’s written by this guy, Chris Terrio, he’s a phenomenal writer… He loves my character in the same way I love my character. He put a lot of work into it. It’s a great character, there’s an emotional core to the character. It’s not this silly, villainous character… This is a real depiction of a person who thinks these things. So the challenge is to make it seem real.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, also starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Gal Gadot, arrives on March 25, 2016, in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.

Ant-Man

We’ve seen a lot of Ant-Man‘s main stars in the film’s publicity photos. Its supporting stars? Not so much. Fortunately, Disney/Marvel has just seen fit to debut a bunch of pics featuring actors Bobby Cannavale, David Dastmalchian, T.I. and Michael Pena. Director Peyton Reed’s incredible shrinking superhero saga bows on July 17th.

Pixels

Is it just me or does Chris Columbus’ Pixels look like it could emerge as the guilty pleasure film of summer 2015? The latest featurettes for this ’80s-video-game-characters-on-the-rampage-in-the-real-world flick sure don’t do anything to dissuade me from seeing it. Here’s some behind-the-scenes info on the games that inspired the movie (as well as a few new ones it introduces) and its decidedly unpixelated warrior woman Lady Lisa, played by Ashley Benson. Pixels offers a new spin on the theme of man versus machines when it opens on July 24th.

The Bourne Identity 5

Julia Stiles

Work on the fifth film in Universal’s lucrative Bourne franchise continues as we hear of its latest casting news. Joining returning Bourne director Paul Greengrass (who helmed the excellent second and third films in the series) and star Matt Damon is actress Julia Stiles, who will once more play Damon’s government confidante. Bourne 5 is being co-written by Damon and Greengrass, and will debut on July 29, 2016.

Dark Places

With the new trailer for Dark Places, based on Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn’s bestselling thriller, the film looks to offer even more white-knuckle chills than last year’s much-acclaimed film, and further the red-hot love affair we’ve had with Charlize Theron since we saw Mad Max: Fury Road. Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, and co-starring Theron’s Fury Road cast mate Nicholas Hoult, along with Christina Hendricks, Drea de Matteo, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Sean Bridgers, Dark Places is set to hooks its claws into us on August 7, 2015.
