Movie Morsels: Jennifer Lawrence Talks GHOSTBUSTERS III, DOCTOR STRANGE in AVENGERS Rumors, STAR TREK 3 Update

The weekend’s not here just yet, but we’re ready to start celebrating now! Why? Because today we’ve got a very cool-sounding Avengers: Age of Ultron rumor, an even cooler potential Ghostbusters III star, and a photo of Ewan McGregor as Jesus Christ himself! Okay, that last bit may not be the coolest — depending on your mileage — but it represents the kind of left-field reporting we here at Movie Morsels strive to bring you day in and day out!

Avengers: Age of Ultron

A new rumor is running rampant through these here interwebs, that the good Doctor Stephen Strange could cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron, thanks to the announcement of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme taking place so shortly before the Ultron reshoots happening next month. One popular theory is that we could be introduced to Strange in a hospital scene, before he’s transformed from a not-so-humble medical doctor into Marvel’s mystic mage.

Ghostbusters 3

In the wake of yesterday’s news that Rebel Wilson has met with director Paul Feig to discuss Ghostbusters 3, we now have word that none other than America’s Sweetheart herself, Ms. Jennifer Katniss Mystique Lawrence, has also met with Feig! In spite of the meeting though, she apparently was unaware there was even a Ghostbusters II, as she reveals at the end of this video below (which is worth watching just to watch Christian Bale’s reaction upon being asked who he’d like to see in Ghostbusters 3).

Star Trek 3

Star Trek

With Roberto Orci no longer in the director’s chair for the next Star Trek movie, a growing number of Trekkers are campaigning via Twitter to return Jonathan Frakes to the helm. Frakes, of course, directed Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection (as well as playing Riker for seven seasons of Next Generation); and he too likes the idea. Apparently he’s already reached out to Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams, while his agent has reached out to Paramount. But we also hear Edgar Wright remains a strong contender. So may the best man live long and prosper!

Geostorm

Gerard Butler

If you thought a Sharknado was trouble, wait’ll you get caught in a Geostorm! Producer Dean Devlin (Independence Day) makes his directorial debut with this Gerard Butler thriller, which has just received a release date of October 21, 2016 from Warner Brothers (a date previously occupied by the studio’s Jungle Book: Origins, which has now been pushed back to October 6, 2017). “Ah,” you say, “that’s all well and good, but what pray tell is a geostorm?” Good question. Turns out it’s what happens “when the world’s climate control satellites fail to function.” Butler apparently plays the world’s sexiest satellite designer, whose skills are required when this phenomenon occurs.

Kung Fu Panda 3

Kung Fu Panda

In other release date news, Fox and DreamWorks Animation have moved Kung Fu Panda 3 from December 23, 2015 to March 18, 2016 in order to avoid competing for kids’ allowance money with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens a mere five days beforehand, on December 18th.

Last Days in the Desert

Wanna see what Ewan McGregor looks like as Jesus? Director Rodrigo Garcia’s Last Days in the Desert presents “an imagined chapter from [Christ’s] forty days of fasting and praying in the desert.” The film debuts at the 2015 Sundance Festival on Janaury 25th, but we have advanced look at Ewan going full JC below.

I cannot express how angry i am about bendystick floppybatch being doctor strange, Joaquin Phoenix would be so much better in my opinion

  2. Whimsy says:

Can we stop calling it Ghost Busters 3? It’s not Ghost Busters 3. It’s a reboot.

  3. Jake says:

Oh no all white women in ghostbusters 3. Seriously? We really are getting that card being played quite often now. It should be by talent, not race. This is getting out of hand. Playing on that white guilt is gonna bite you in the butt one day. Boys can only cry wolf so often before the villagers stop coming.

  4. WayneAP says:

All white women as Ghostbusters, Ewan McGregor as Jesus… Looks like racial diversity is as strong as ever in Hollywood.

    • Liz says:

To be fair, they haven’t actually announced the cast yet, and this was a totally random poll of ten or so people. I don’t know her last name, Octavia something.  She’d be good. Aisha Tyler might be. But I like her better being herself than acting.

  5. Ray says:

Stephen Strange has already been sited as a person of interest in the MCU. He shouldn’t be seen as a normal person in Avengers 2 if it takes place post-Winter Soldier. Unless he’s just a really good surgeon and that’s his Inhuman power :/

    • Chrisfs says:

Doctor Strange is not going to be an origin movie, so like Bruce Banner, it’s likely that he is already a powerful sorceror at the time of Winter Soldier

    • Whimsy says:

The whole deal with Winter Soldier is they had an algorithm to detect when people were significant, which could mean they predict that Adam Strange WILL BECOME a “superhero” based on math and science and stuff I dunno it’s comic books.
Point is, they could make it work either way. Chances are good he’ll already be Doctor Strange since they already said he won’t have an “origin movie”, but just because he’s a normal dude in current continuity doesn’t invalidate the stuff from Winter Soldier.

  6. bay_estrian says:

Who’s Alicia Tyler? Maybe liliana from archer! Get your shaming game tight

  7. Zac says:

I am an adult and I will 100 % be giving DreamWorks MY allowance money for Kung Fu Panda 3, whenever they decide to release it.

  8. JamesDaBear says:

…and all of the people in that video came up with white actresses for Ghostbusters 3. Where’s Alicia Tyler? #shame
