Movie Morsels: Hugh Jackman on WOLVERINE’s Future, WONDER WOMAN Shooting Announcement, Young Han Solo Casting Rumors

Believe it or not, there was more happening in Hollywood these last few days than the Academy Awards. Things like Wolverine star Hugh Jackman revealing just how long he’d like to play the character, first word of when Wonder Woman starts shooting, rumors surrounding who will play a young Han Solo in the second Star Wars standalone film, and plenty more. And right here in today’s Movie Morsels is where we get into it!

Wolverine 3

Wondering how long Hugh Jackman wants to keep playing our favorite feral mutant Wolverine? Until he dies! The Aussie actor admitted as much to Cigar Aficionado in a new interview. Apparently after seeing the dilemma facing Michael Keaton’s former superhero star character in Birdman, Jackman had an epiphany…

“I said to my wife, ‘The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.’ I know that someday they’ll recast the role with another actor… I’d be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic.”

In the meantime, we can all enjoy Jackman’s next appearance in the role in director Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, arriving on May 23, 2016, and director James Mangold’s next solo Wolverine film on March 3, 2017.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

Wondering when Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman will start production? We’ve just learned that the first-ever live-action film devoted to DC’s immortal Amazon princess — starring Gal Gadot — will begin shooting this fall. Beforehand, the former Fast & Furious star will appear in Kevin Costner’s Criminal and Triple Nine. Gadot’s Wonder Woman, whom all the world is waiting for, will first appear in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman (opening on March 25, 2016); her solo film arrives on June 23, 2017.

Untitled Star Wars Standalone Film

Kingsman

After director Gareth Edwards’ first Star Wars standalone film — said to focus on the theft of the original Death Star’s plans — arrives in 2016 and Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Episode VIII debuts in 2017, we’ll get another Star Wars standalone film in 2018. What’s it about? No one knows yet. Who will direct it? Josh Trank’s name has been bandied about, but it’s not a done deal. We now hear, however, the name of the first actor rumored to play a young Han Solo in that movie — Kingsman‘s Taron Egerton (i.e. the chap above who’s not Colin Firth).

Chappie

Chappie

Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie features South African rap artists Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er (known together as Die Antwoord), playing versions of themselves, who steal the film’s eponymous artificial intelligence and introduce him to a life of crime. It sounds like a clever twist on stories like Oliver Twist and Pinocchio. Co-starring Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver, Chappie opens in the US on March 6th. Check out a short featuring the two rappers below.

Focus

Wanna watch another trailer for Focus, Will Smith and Margot Robie’s caper film? Aw, go on, you know you do. Especially since this is our first chance to see the duo’s chemistry before they tackle two of the DC Universe’s most beloved characters in Suicide Squad — Deadshot and Harley Quinn. (If you haven’t already been told who plays who, I’ll leave you to figure it out.) Focus, written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, opens on February 27th.
