Movie Morsels: Harley Quinn SUICIDE SQUAD Casting Rumor, AGE OF ULTRON Updates, John Williams’ Next STAR WARS Score, and More!

You won’t find any tricks in this installment of Movie Morsels, but there’s a sweet little Halloween treat waiting at the end of it… That’s after you’ve gotten the latest on Star Wars Episode VII, Vin Diesel’s The Last Witch Hunter, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Suicide Squad, and more!

The Last Witch Hunter

Let’s start things off with something spooky… After Riddick, Fast & Furious, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vin Diesel is looking to add another genre franchise to his resume with The Last Witch Hunter. The film, starring Diesel in the title role and set in present-day New York City — and co-starring Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood, Michael Caine, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson — has just earned itself a release date: October 23rd, 2015. Lionsgate has selected that date for the Breck Eisner-directed epic now that The Conjuring 2 has vacated it for a 2016 release (so that James Wan can direct the New Line sequel). Also due on October 23rd next year: the Jason Blum-produced Jem and the Holograms!

Star Wars Episode VII

Fans of that galaxy far, far away may get to hear the first strains of composer John Williams’ score for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII sooner than they thought. A source for the John Williams Fan Network reports that Williams will begin recording music for the film’s trailer next month. According to the site, Williams “received a trailer from JJ Abrams on Monday, Oct 20. JW has already written new Star Wars music to accompany this trailer. This new trailer music will feature new music and will be recorded on November 15 in LA with full orchestra. Still determining if the score will be recorded in London due to advanced age of composer/conductor. 14 hour flight to LA not too kind on 82 year old. This is all a secret and this message will be deleted shortly.”

Suicide Squad

Just typing the words “Suicide Squad” makes me smile. And after the DC Universe super-team’s winning appearances on TV’s Arrow and the recent animated movie Batman: Assault on Arkham, is there a fanboy among us who isn’t thrilled that the Squad will be headlining its own live-action feature film? Which makes the search for the film’s Harley Quinn as thrilling as that of any superhero casting yet. The first big rumor regarding who will play the former Dr. Harleen Quinzel comes via Latino Review, which claims British model/singer/actress Cara Delevigne is under consideration for the role. “Harley Quinn’s character was not included in the early drafts of the script, but that may all change since director David Ayer is expected to work on the script himself,” reports that site, adding that “the Suicide Squad lineup will be comprised of seven villains, Blockbuster (Mark Desmond), Multiplex (Danton Black), Jaculi, Mindboggler (Leah Wasserman), Captain Boomerang (George Harkness), Vixen (Mari Jiwe McCabe) and Deadshot (Floyd Lawton), but those characters have not been confirmed by Warner Bros. or DC Comics yet.”

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Ultron 2

With Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, and the Vision making their first appearances in Avengers: Age of Ultron, speculation has been running rampant as to whether the super-team’s roster will change by the film’s end. But now Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige has confirmed that the old older will indeed changeth, and we’re likely to say goodbye to an original Avenger. Speaking with Buzzfeed, Feige remarks, “It’s like as it was in publishing, when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was. I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.” So who will stay and who will go? Your guess is as good as mine, but judging by Age of Ultron‘s trailer, the changeover won’t come without heartache.

Comet

Shameless star Emmy Rossum is partnered with Tusk‘s human walrus Justin Long in Comet, a romance about a couple “whose entire relationship is viewed in a series of connected scenes that change, transform and surprise in a multitude of ways.” Written and directed by Sam Esmail, the film garnered strong buzz when it debuted at the Los Angeles Film Festival last June. Check out the preview that just landed on IMDB…

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night

And here’s your treat for this Halloween Tuesday… Described by The New York Times as “The first Iranian vampire Western,” A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is the feature film directorial debut of UK-born filmmaker Ana Lily Amirpour. An expansion of Amirpour’s short with the same name (which won Best Short Film at the Noor Iranian Film Festival), the movie’s trailer has just arrived online, giving us a glimpse of the eerie black-and-white world we can expect to enter once it debuts on November 21st from Vice Films.

Spoiler alert. It’s iron man because duh.

Cara Delevingne is a smoke-show. She can make funny faces, too.  But, Harley Quinn with a London accent would be a travesty.

  4. Edymnion says:

Rumor has it that Hulk is going to be shot off into space on a Quinjet meant to get rid of Ultron and find himself on the other side of the galaxy, where the Guardians of the Galaxy find him and bring him home, thus setting the stage for the two teams to have their big showdown with Thanos.

  5. Vern says:

The roster is changed doesn’t mean anyone is dying, adding to the roster also changes it…

  6. You can’t do a Suicide Squad movie WITHOUT Harley!!!
