Though we here at Movie Morsels are still dealing with yesterday’s devastating news of David Bowie’s passing, it’s heartening to know that his presence will be felt in all forms of art for a very long time to come. According to director James Gunn, we might even hear him return to the Marvel Universe through the soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Given how monumental his music career was, it’s easy to forget that Bowie was also a first-rate actor who appeared in an unusually high percentage of quality films. Among them:Â The Man Who Fell to Earth, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, The Hunger, The Last Temptation of Christ, and, of course, the cult favorite muppet musical Labyrinth. If director James Gunn had his druthers, Bowie would have also appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as the filmmaker revealed yesterday on Facebook. A fitting tribute for sure, given Bowie’s obvious lifelong love of science fiction. (Has any icon ever created so much great music within the SF genre?) But another kind of tribute may yet find its way into Guardians 2. Though Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream” appeared in the original Guardians, the director remarked that it’s possible he may be the first artist to be included on both films’ soundtracks.
“Just a very short while ago Kevin Feige and I were talking about a cameo role in Guardians Vol. 2, and he brought up Bowie’s name. I told him nothing in the world would make me happier, but I heard from common friends he wasn’t doing well. We heard back that he was okay and it could potentially happen. Who knows what that was about? But, for whatever reason, it made my Twitter revelation more of a surprise…
“To my mind, Ziggy Stardust is perhaps the greatest rock and roll album of all time. We featured ‘Moonage Daydream’ in Guardians, but I always thought the album’s character was felt far beyond that, in the aesthetics, in the integral and seemingly-natural linking in popular culture of ’70’s rock and space opera. I’ve been trying to work another song from Ziggy into the sequel, which would make Bowie the only artist to have a song on both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. I thought this was fair and appropriate. Although I cut the scene it was used in from the script, we have the rights. Who knows. Maybe I can figure a way out…”
In other Guardians 2 news, Benicio Del Toro says he will most likely not appear in the film, though that doesn’t mean his Collector won’t return in another Marvel movie.

Deadpool‘s marketing campaign has thus far been as irreverent and funny as the Merc with a Mouth himself. The latest bit of advertising hilariously evokes that of most romantic comedies… appropriate enough, since the film opens Valentine’s Day Weekend. Gambit, where ya been, buddy? With all this talk of Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse, we’ve heard precious little about ragin’ Cajun. But we have at least one tidbit to chew on: director Doug Liman’s adaptation, according to WGNO, will begin shooting in Hollywood South in March. So there’s that.

Untitled Darren Aronofsky Film
While Darren Aronofsky’s next project doesn’t have a title yet, it does have a potential new star. Oscar winner Javier Bardem is in talks to join the previously announced Jennifer Lawrence in the picture, which “centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.” Hmmm…

Robin Hood: Origins
Speaking of Oscar-winner casting, Jamie Foxx has signed on for the self-explanatory Robin Hood: Origins as Robin’s right-hand man Little John. Otto Bathurst directs, and Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Taron Egerton and The Knick‘s Eve Hewson star as Robin and Maid Marion.

The Last Witch Hunter
Finally today…Â if you didn’t get enough Rose Leslie in Vin Diesel’s recent The Last Witch Hunter, then you’re in luck. The Game of Thrones vet features in a deleted scene on the home video release. The film lands on Digital HD on January 12 and hits Blu-Ray and DVD on February 2. While we can’t embed it for you in this article, you can check out the clip here.
