Movie Morsels: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2, SUICIDE SQUAD Updates, Andy Serkis’ JUNGLE BOOK Begins Production

Everyday I’m morselin’, morselin’… Oh, hey there! Welcome back to Movie Morsels. Today, we’ve got some confirmation from James Gunn on which fan-favorite characters won’t be appearing in his sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the latest word on David Ayer’s Suicide Squad from actor Joel “Rick Flag” Kinnaman. Plus, Andy Serkis’ long-planned Jungle Book adaptation finally starts shooting, Tim Burton’s latest goth fantasy gets a new cast member, and more! Everyday I’m morselin’…

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Director James Gunn has reconfirmed on Twitter that Captain Marvel will not, alas, appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, even after Marvel Studios announced the character will appear in its cinematic universe at some point in the future. Gunn also nixed the idea that Venom or his fellow symbiotes would appear in the film…

Gunn recently remarked that he’ll add one of his favorite superheroes to the sequel, but it looks like we’ll have a little longer to wait before we learn who that is.

Suicide Squad

Joel Kinnaman

Run All Night star Joel Kinnaman has a few things to say regarding his role as Rick Flag in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad. The actor explains why the project will likely succeed where his Robocop reboot failed: “…This is also a universe that [director] David Ayer is going to create – there’s a lot more. Also, when you’re doing the first movie in a comic book, you always have the leeway of you’re going to move it from a comic book to a film and put it in real life – you’re always going to make a lot of changes and create a new universe. So you’re kind of setting a precedent. When you’re remaking a movie that’s already been made and a character that was made for the film, then it becomes a different thing and it’s more difficult to create something new without offending some people.” Co-starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and Cara Delevingne, Suicide Squad bows on August 5, 2016.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrine's

Casting continues on Tim Burton’s next film, with Deadwood and House of Cards star Kim Dickens the latest actor to sign on for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. (Dickens has also been cast as one of the stars of the upcoming Walking Dead spinoff series.) Miss Peregrine’s is based on Ransom Riggs’ YA novel about a teenage boy (played by Asa Butterfield) tasked with protecting a gang of super-powered orphans (led by the title character, played by Eva Green) from monsters on a remote island. Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, and Samuel L. Jackson co-star.

The Jungle Book

Production has finally begun on director Andy Serkis’ adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book for Warner Bros. The mo-cap cast includes Christian Bale as Bagheera, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, and Serkis himself as Baloo. The Jungle Book arrives on October 6, 2017.

  1. NimbU says:

So wait… Christian Bale is going to be mo-capping Bagheera, a black panther that walks on four legs? That sounds… interesting. I sure hope we get lots of behind the scenes footage of him in the suit.

  2. Dave Dawkins says:

Either the IMDB got the cast list for the Jungle Book really wrong, or you guys did. They list Scarlett Johansen as Kaa, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, and Irdis Elba as Shere Khaqn.

    • The Correctinator says:

You are referring to Jon Favreau’s Jungle Book. This article is talking about Andy Serkis’ adaptation.
