Ghostbusters
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s news that Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones will star in Sony’s Ghostbusters reboot for director Paul Feig comes official word from Feig himself via Twitter on when these ladies can be expected to light up their neutrino wands: July 22, 2016.

Suicide Squad
We’ve got yet another update from the world of DC’s Suicide Squad today, with Margot Robbie chiming in on the voice she will use as the team’s distinctly accented, wisecracking Harley Quinn: “None of those things have been set in stone at this point, but according to the comics, she’s from New York and I think Brooklyn, so there may be a slight… I couldn’t imagine it would be as strong as the Wolf of Wall Street accent. The lingo will be the difference between that and the other character I played in Wolf [pictured above] but I don’t know yet. We haven’t spoken about it.”
Independence Day 2
With Will Smith declining to return to the franchise, director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin have been searching for a new leading man for the long-awaited sequel to their 1996 blockbuster Independence Day. And it looks like they may have found one in Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth, who’s in talks to star in Independence Day 2. The film, debuting on June 24, 2016, is also expected to feature Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum once more in their original roles. Hemsworth’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 arrives on November 20th.
Rings
Paramount has a few new release dates for horror fans. The next film in the studio’s The Ring franchise — Rings (because Alien/Aliens) — will arrive on November 13th of this year. Directed by Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez, it features Italian star Matilda Lutz. That moves the opening date of the next Friday the 13th film from November 13th to May 13th. Meanwhile, the studio’s leading fright film series in recent years — Blumhouse’s Paranormal Activity — has its Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension pushed back from March 13th to October 23rd, making it a proper Halloween release.

Jobs
Principal photography finally began yesterday on director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin’s biopic Jobs, after several rounds of musical casting chairs last year and a disparaging remark from Sorkin about star Michael Fassbender’s box-office clout revealed in the Sony hack. The film moved to Universal in November. The final cast? In addition to Fassbender as the late Apple founder, Jobs features Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, Kate Winslet as Mac marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley, Inherent Vice‘s Katherine Waterston as Steve Jobs’ ex Chrisann Brennan, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Mac developer Andy Hertzfeld.
