Are you prepared to gaze into the visage of the dark evil that lurks at the heart of the new Ghostbusters? Then dive on in to today’s Movie Morsels, where we’ve also got the latest from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Kingsman: The Secret Service 2, and much more…
Ghostbusters
At this week’s Toy Fair in New York City, fans were given an advance look at the action figures based on this summer’s Ghostbusters reboot. And among then, according to Pixel Dan, is the film’s Big Bad, “Rowan.” The villain is reminiscent of the ghost in the team’s logo. Though it’s worth keeping in mind that we could be looking at merely one form of Rowan. In any case, we’ll know for sure when Ghostbusters opens on July 15.
Here’s a video showcasing all of Mattel’s new Ghostbusters figures…
Directed by Paul Feig, Ghostbusters will star Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
Aw, it seems like only yesterday that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were coming out of their shells, and now they’re coming out of the shadows… The second film in Paramount’s reboot of the beloved superhero franchise will again star Megan Fox and Will Arnett, joined this time by Arrow‘s Stephen Amell as Casey Jones. Check out the four new character posters for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, directed by Dave Green and arriving on June 3 in 3D and IMAX 3D…
Kingsman: The Secret Service 2
The sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service is looking to mix it up a bit. While the first film featured the always reliably badass Samuel Jackson as the heavy, this time around the main villain could be played by Oscar winner and frequent on-screen crier Julianne Moore. With actor Taron Egerton and director Matthew Vaughn returning, Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 is expected to begin shooting in May.
Pinoccchio
After losing director Paul Thomas Anderson, Warner Brothers’ long-discussed live-action adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio will now be helmed by a very different kind of filmmaker: Ron Howard. That said, Robert Downey Jr. is still slotted to star as the title character’s beleaguered poppa Geppetto. Last year it was reported that Disney was developing its own live-action Pinocchio, based on its classic animated take on the tale, in the tradition of the studio’s Cinderella, Maleficent, et al. Might we soon be looking at dueling puppet films?
Life
Finally today… In the wake of Deadpool‘s massive success last weekend, star Ryan Reynolds is in talks to board Life, another project scripted by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Daniel Espinosa (who worked with Reynolds on Safe House) will direct this “big-scale film focusing on a Mars mission that finds intelligent alien life.” The best news surrounding Life, however, is that Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation action goddess Rebecca Ferguson will co-star.
