Movie Morsels: First Look at X-MEN: APOCALYPSE’s Psylocke in Action, LUCY 2 Announced

It’s the final Monday before the Fourth of July, so let’s start this work week off with a bang. We’ve got the first footage of X-Men: Apocalypse‘s Olivia Munn (better known as Psylocke) swinging her katana blade, and new trailers for Ant-Man, Fantastic Four, and Tom Hardy’s Legend. Plus news on Luc Besson’s plans for a sequel to last year’s Scarlett Johansson thriller Lucy!

Ant-Man

If you’re still starving for fresh Ant-Man footage, we’ve got just the thing for you today: the film’s Japanese trailer. It’s got some scenes we’ve not yet seen of ex-con Scott Lang as he begins his road to redemption, with the help of Hank Pym’s supersuit. Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly star in the latest Marvel Studios epic, out on July 17th.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Wondering how Olivia Munn will fare as Betsy Braddock (AKA the mutant Psylocke) in X-Men: Apocalypse? The former Attack of the Show host and Newsroom star has shared, via Instagram, some footage of herself wielding her character’s trademark katana blade. Based on this video, I can easily see Ms. Munn dismembering someone with that thing.

Learned some new tricks…

Director Bryan Singer’s fourth X-Men film arrives on May 27, 2016, and also stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult, as well as Rose Byrne, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, and Munn’s fellow X-newbies Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse himself.

Lucy 2

Want more ass-kicking action heroines? Luc Besson has announced that he’s not only developing a sequel to last summer’s surprise hit Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson as a reluctant drug mule who develops godlike powers when an experimental chemical is released into her body, but also a sequel to the 2011 Zoe Saldana-starring thriller Colombiana, which he co-wrote and produced for director Olivier Megaton. Besson’s EuropaCorp revealed the news at this week’s CineEurope 2015.

Fantastic Four

I’m still not sure I’m ready for a “hip” Fantastic Four, but the latest trailer for Fox’s reboot seems to promise just that, going so far as to layer some hip-hop music over the superheroics of Marvel’s first family. Johnny Storm asking us if we’re ready to have our minds blown may be a textbook example of a trailer writing checks that a film can’t cash, and I still don’t understand why Fox is withholding the sight of Mister Fantastic stretching. But I’m willing to withhold judgement until I see the final product. Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell star as the quixotic quartet. Directed by Josh Trank, Fantastic Four debuts on August 7th.

In other Fantastic Four news, Fox has released a new pic of the film’s cast via Empire

Legend

Mad Max himself plays the legendary London gangster twin brothers Ronald and Reginald Kray in writer-director Brian Helgeland’s Legend. Bowing on October 2nd, the film co-stars Emily Browning, and looks to be the most impressive twin performance by a single actor since Jeremy Irons’ turn in David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers. Here’s the new trailer for the crime thriller.
