Movie Morsels: First Look at Tarantino’s THE HATEFUL EIGHT, New JURASSIC WORLD Footage, and More

Today’s Movie Morsels has cowboys, dinosaur wranglers, gangsters, mad scientists, robots, and comedians, but not one superhero! I know, I’m suffering from withdrawal too. But we’ll just have to make do as we see you off this weekend with the first photo from Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, new footage from Jurassic World, and updates on Edgar Wright and Alex Garland’s next films. Now that doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

The Hateful Eight

Entertainment Weekly’s May 15th issue offers a first look at Quentin Tarantino’s latest, the much-talked about western The Hateful Eight, starring QT vets Samuel Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins, and Bruce Dern, along with newcomers Demián Bichir and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Here’s Leigh, Russell, and Jackson on the issue’s cover. The Hateful Eight hits theaters this fall.

Jurassic World

Universal has a new extended spot for its upcoming Jurassic World, directed by Colin Trevorrow and starring the coolest guy in the galaxy, Chis Pratt. Jurassic World devours us in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on June 12th.

Baby Driver

Lily James

Edgar Wright’s next film may have landed its leading lady. Cinderella star Lily James is in talks to get behind the wheel of Wright’s Baby Driver, about “a young, talented getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best. After being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.” Ansel Elgort is slated to co-star.

Insidious: Chapter 3

The third installment in the Insidious series has itself a motion poster, and it’s a good bit more sophisticated than most such posters. Out on June 5th, writer-directer Leigh Whannell’s prequel stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, and Lin Shaye as psychic Elise Rainier.

Ex Machina

Alex Garland’s Ex Machina expands to even more theaters this weekend. And, to celebrate, we’ve got a new red-band trailer for the film, dubbed by A24 Films, “Beware Sexy Robots.” Enjoy.

Annihilation

Natalie Portman

And speaking of Alex Garland’s Ex Machina… Since it’s the smartest mainstream science-fiction we’ve seen so far this year, we’re very much looking forward to the writer/director’s follow-up SF thriller Annihilation, based on acclaim scribe Jeff VanderMeer’s novel about “a female expedition sent to a cordoned off forest, after previous attempts to explore ended with disastrous results.” Paramount has discussed the film with Natalie Portman, though her participation is not yet confirmed. Fingers crossed she says yes, since her participation would no doubt put this project on the fast track.

Fifty Shades of Black

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" Los Angeles Premiere - Arrivals

Nature abhors a vacuum. So if someone has to make a Fifty Shades of Grey spoof, it might as well be Marlon Wayans. The actor-writer-producer’s Fifty Shades of Black, directed by Mike Tiddes, arrives early next year. “Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand,” says Wayans, “and I’m looking forward to having fun with this project. It’s amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I’m really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional.”
