Movie Morsels: First Look at STAR TREK BEYOND Alien, Sony Producing EMOJI Movie

We’ve got our very first look at one of the aliens we’ll see when Star Trek Beyond goes (hopefully) where no Star Trek film has gone before when it arrives next summer. Also in today’s Movie Morsels, we have four new Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation TV trailers, four photos of the women we’ll see in the next James Bond film, Spectre, a new character poster for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, word on Sony’s upcoming emoji movie, and more!

Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation

Paramount’s latest Mission: Impossible film has four new TV spots, featuring stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin, Jeremy Renner, and Rebecca Ferguson. The fifth entry in the lucrative superspy series is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, should you choose to accept it, opens on July 31st.

Star Trek Beyond

Hey, speaking of Simon Pegg… The British funnyman has released a new video along with his “eldest son” Anton Yelchin in support of the Omaze campaign for Star Trek Beyond. What makes this video extra special is that it features, for just a moment (so don’t blink!), our very first look at one of the film’s aliens…

Written by Pegg and directed by Justin Lin, Star Trek Beyond lands on July 8, 2016.

SPECTRE

The second trailer for the next James Bond film, Spectre, arrives later today. To whet your appetite, we’ve got four new photos from the November 6th release, one with each of actresses starring in it. Here (in descending order) is Lea Seydoux’s psychologist Dr. Madeleine Swann, Monica Bellucci’s mafia widow Lucia Sciarra, Naomie Harris as MI6’s Eve Moneypenny, and Stephanie Sigman’s mysterious Estrella…

Untitled Emoji Movie

Emoji

Yes, God help us, Sony is developing a motion picture based on emoji. Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters‘ Anthony Leondis, who’s also directing DreamWorks’ upcoming B.O.O.: Bureau Of Otherworldly Operations, will be at the helm, co-writing with Eric Siegel. No release date has been announced yet, thank goodness.

Monster Hunt

DreamWorks animator Raman Hui, a veteran of Shrek and Puss in Boots, has a new hit on his hands with the 3D computer-animated/live-action hybrid Monster Hunt, which broke the opening day record for a Chinese release in its home country when it debuted last Thursday, July 16th. Starring Bai Baihe and Jing Boran, the film’s animation design definitely recalls that of such DreamWorks hits as Home and How to Train Your Dragon. No word yet on when this will reach U.S. shores.
