Movie Morsels: First GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Cast Photo, SPECTRE and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Updates, and More

This might be a short work week, America, but you’ve still earned your Hump Day. So celebrate with today’s Movie Morsels — in which we provide you with updates on the role of Piotr Rasputin (a.k.a. Colossus) in the Deadpool movie and the first photo of the cast from next year’s Ghostbusters reboot. Plus, we’ve got updates on the next James Bond movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Scarlett Johansson’s next thriller!

Word on the streets is that the first solo film featuring Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth is shaping up to be a kind of buddy movie co-starring Deadpool (as played by Ryan Reynolds) and the X-Men’s Colossus. But Daniel Cudmore — the actor who’s portrayed the Russian-born mutant in three X-Men films (X2, The Last Stand, and last summer’s Days of Future Past) — will not be reprising his role in director Tim Miller’s movie. Cudmore announced the news via Twitter

Kudos to Cudmore for taking this like such a champ. You’ve done Colossus proud… Deadpool debuts on February 12, 2016, but stay tuned for more analysis on today’s Nerdist News.

At Sunday night’s Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary special, SNL and Ghostbusters stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones gathered for a very special group photo. Jones tweeted the pic, which marks the first time all four ladies have gathered before the camera since it was announced they will headline the reboot of Columbia’s beloved paranormal franchise. Coming to save the world on July 22, 2016, Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters begins shooting in New York this summer.

A second accident has befallen the set of the next James Bond epic Spectre in Solden, Austria. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a camera truck ran off the road yesterday and hit a barn, injuring second unit assistant director Terry Madden — who has worked on every Bond film since 1981’s For Your Eyes Only — and causing him to suffer multiple fractures. Star Daniel Craig endured a knee injury while shooting last week. Co-starring Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Naomie Harris and Dave Bautista, director Sam Mendes’ follow-up to Skyfall arrives on November 6th.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Anchors aweigh! Production on the fifth installment of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film series began yesterday in Queensland, Australia, with Johnny Depp reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow opposite Javier Bardem, who plays the evil Captain Salazar. According to a new plot synopsis from the studio, Salazar and his ghost pirates are out to prevent Sparrow from obtaining the mythical Poseidon’s Trident, with which he hopes to prevent them from killing every pirate in the world. Arrr indeed! After sitting out the last Pirates film, Orlando Bloom is back too, joined by Brenton Thwaites, who plays his character Will Turner’s son. Also starring Kaya Scodelario and the returning Geoffrey Rush, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, reaches land on July 7, 2017.

The Psychopath Test

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson looks to continue her winning streak with The Psychopath Test, based on Jon Ronson’s bestselling book about the scientific study of the eponymous killer. Universal has recruited screenwriter Kristin Gore (Al’s daughter) to tackle the adaptation, with Jay Roach helming the project. Roach and Gore are also uniting for the HBO sci-fi comedy Women in Space.
