Another weekend has come and gone, all those moments lost in time like tears in the rain. No, this isn’t my way of telling you we have some juicy Blade Runner 2 details. Rather, it’s my way of welcoming you to another fun-filled week of Movie Morsels. Today we’ve got everything from the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot to Star Trek 3 to Bill & Ted 3 to Interstellar and beyond.

Fantastic Four

As the onslaught of 2015’s insane amount of superhero films marches ever closer, so do the leaks. The latest one comes courtesy of Schmoes Know and sheds some light on how the Fantastic Four will get their powers in the upcoming Josh Trank-directed film.

According to their source, the team will “gain their powers through a lab experiment gone wrong in a way, where they create a portal to another world or dimension (its [sic] not clear) and they get their powers after the exposure to this other dimension/planet. Much like how the group gets their powers in the Ultimate Fantastic Four comics, after they are engulfed in a failed teleporter experiment.”

As you well know, Kate Mara is set to play Sue Storm and Michael B. Jordan is set to play Johnny Storm, a decision that prompted troglodyte idiots to come crawling out of the woodwork in the comment sections across the land. The site’s source indicates that Mara’s Sue Storm will indeed be adopted by Johnny Storm’s family, who are African American. So there you have it. I certainly hope that earth-shattering piece of information helps you sleep at night. [Schmoes Know]

X-Men: Apocalypse

Could X-Men: Apocalypse mark the end of an era? It’s certainly seeming that way based on what writer/producer Simon Kinberg had to say in a recent Q&A:

“The thrust of Apocalypse is really to complete the trilogy we began with First Class – to complete the stories of young Raven, young Hank, younger Charles and Erik. And complete this trilogy of four people who began the films sort of disparate and in different worlds who we’ve followed through the span of decades. So that’ll be the thrust. There will be familiar characters and new characters that we haven’t seen…ever…but it’ll be the completion of what we began in First Class.”

So, if Apocalypse marks the end of Beast, Professor X, Magneto, and Mystique’s saga, who will carry on the franchise going forward? Logic would dictate that if the recasting rumors are true, we could see stories revolving around Cylcops, Jean Grey, Storm, and others that we’ll meet in Apocalypse. Or maybe they’ll finally read the letters I’ve been sending them and give me a goddamn Dazzler movie already. [Yahoo UK]

Star Trek 3

The never-ending saga of “Will William Shatner appear in Star Trek 3?” has taken an interesting turn. Well, depending on what your interests are. While at Nashville Comic-Con, Shatner revelaed that he recently received a call from none other than J.J. Abrams. Shatner recounted the call before a rapt audience:

“I’m calling, Bill, because the director of the Star Trek movie, the next one, has had an idea where you might be involved in it. So I am calling to see if you would be interested.”

The man they once called Kirk revealed that he would be open to returning if the part is “meaningful”, which is to say that he likely doesn’t want to do a one-off cameo. If Roberto Orci is able too cook up something “meaningful”, it’d make for a nice Shatner/Nimoy reunion in honor of the franchise’s upcoming fiftieth anniversary. Hopefully we’ll find out one way or another soon so poor Carol in wardrobe knows if she needs to dust off the old girdle. [CinemaBlend]

Bill & Ted 3

Not to be outdone by our Speed 3 scoop last week, Alex Winter has unveiled new details about another Keanu Reeves threequel we’ve been jonesing for: Bill & Ted 3:

“[The film is] about Bill and Ted grown up, or not grown up. The conceit is really funny: What if you’re middle-aged, haven’t really grown up and you’re supposed to have saved the world and maybe, just maybe, you kinda haven’t?”

Winter confirmed that it will fit in with the previous two films:

“It’s not going to feel like a reboot. It’s answering the question ‘What happened to these guys?’ They’re supposed to have done all this stuff, they weren’t the brightest bulbs on the tree, what happened 20 years later? To answer that question in a comedic way felt rich with possibility.”

And what about the script? It’s done, according to Winter.

“The script’s been finished for a while, but comedy is so specific. The thing we had going against us is that word got out… It just takes a long time to put a movie together. Now we’re having to build this thing in public, which is fine. I just feel bad [the fans] have to get dragged through this long, boring, protracted process.”

Here’s hoping that Dave Beeth-Oven will return to score the film if and when it eventually happens. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Interstellar

Did someone say new Interstellar trailer? The new TV spot offers up some footage we haven’t seen yet, including a walking robot and details about Matthew McConaughey’s mission to find a habitable planet. More realistically, though, we’re just thirsty for anything Interstellar-related we can get our hot little hands on. [Screen Rant]

Son of a Gun

Nothing like a little chess to pass the time in Australian prison, eh? The first clip of Julius Avery’s Son of a Gun has arrived and offers up a tense moment between cold, calculating crime boss Brendan Lynch (Ewan McGregor) and 19 year-old JR (Brenton Thwaites). The Australian psychological thriller finds a young man, JR, imprisoned for a minor offense. While in prison, he becomes the Lynch’s appreentice, and soon gets embroiled in the criminal underworld. The takeaway? Never play chess with Ewan McGregor. [Collider]

London Has Fallen

Whither London Has Fallen? Ever since Charlier Countryman helmer Fredrik Bond exited the project, the question of everyone’s mind — okay, the question on several minds — has been who will replace Antoine Fuqua in the director’s chair for the Gerard Butler-starring sequel. New reports are indicating that Easy Money II: Hard to Kill director Babak Najafi is being eyed to helm the London-set sequel. Regardless of what happens, it’s just reassuring to know that Gerard Butler has a strict one-in, one-out policy when it comes to Swedes. [Deadline]

Because what would Movie Morsels be without a little Liam Neeson? Behold the unreasonably lousy poster for Taken 3, excuse me, I mean TAK3N. Here’s hoping that Bryan Mills’ third outing is everything I’m hoping it will be and that it is at least as good or better than this truly horrendous poster. [JoBlo]
