Movie Morsels: Drax’s Big Role in AVENGERS 3, BATMAN V SUPERMAN’s Batmobile Revealed, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Details, and More

Drax blew us away in Guardians of the Galaxy, but what will he be doing in Avengers 3? Why would I spoil it here? It’s another action-packed edition of Movie Morsels, and we’ve got everything from Aquaman to Al Pacino in here for your reading pleasure.

Avengers 3

The Age of Ultron isn’t even upon us yet and already the Avengers 3 rumors are beginning to swirl. This one you’ll want to take with a Galactus-sized grain of salt, though. According to a report from PWMania.com, Drax the Destroyer, he of not understanding metaphors in Guardians of the Galaxy fame, is not only going to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but will play a major role in Avengers 3.

“Marvel Studios are currently restructuring his contract that will likely see him get more money due to the success of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Bautista is slated for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 as well as the 3rd AVENGERS movie, where he will have a significant role.”

While the report may not be the most reliable in the world, it’s not that far out of the realm of possibility. We’ve known since the end credits of Avengers that we’d be building towards an eventual showdown with Thanos over the Infinity Gauntlet, and the Guardians of the Galaxy will presumably play a large part in helping the Avengers take down the Mad Titan. And Drax did swear vengeance against Thanos at the end of Guardians. In the meantime though, we’ll be playing the waiting game as we watch Baby Groot dance hypnotically until Guardians 2 drops in 2017.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5

When he’s not fighting Justin Bieber outside of nightclubs, Orlando Bloom is gearing up for his next film projects. What’s next for the man we once knew as Legolas? Well, if the latest rumors are to be believed, he could be walking the plank once more as in Pirates of the Caribbean 5. While at Oz Comic Con, the actor sounded off:

“That whole experience working with Johnny (Depp) and (director) Gore (Verbinski) was really amazing for me. I had a great time working with Johnny, one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity (to be in the first Pirates) was because Johnny was involved. I was such a massive fan of Johnny Depp growing up so to get up close and personal to Johnny and see how he worked as an actor was just a massive gift.”

Keith Richards and Geoffrey Rush have also been rumored to return, but don’t hold your breath for Keira Knightley. The fifth voyage of Jack Sparrow sets sail with directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg on July 7, 2017 [Slashfilm]

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Take a seat, Xzibit, because Batman’s ride has already been pimped. An aerial shot of the Batmobile from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is making the rounds, and it looks pretty sweet. Very Arkham Knight, but very cool. The bird’s-eye view comes courtesy of Instagram user mole6674, and he is truly the hero that Gotham deserves. [CBM]

Will we see Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after all? Well, Jason Momoa isn’t really clearing anything up for us. In an interview with EW, the Game of Thrones star answered a question about Aquaman rather cryptically.

“Well, I’m really excited for it [Batman v. Superman] to come out in 2016, I’ll tell you that much. I’m really excited to see what is happening in that world.”

Yeah, Jason, we’re all excited. Zack Snyder is so excited he called into a radio show to publicly defend Aquaman. We know writers have been hired for a standalone Aquaman movie, but when it comes to knowing exactly whether or not we’ll see Arthur Curry in Batman v Superman, it’s looks like we’re going to keep treading water. 23 Jump Street

Need more Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill posing as underage students in your life? Well, it looks like your wish will be granted. News broke yesterday that Sony is gearing up for 23 Jump Street with a script penned by by 22 Jump Street scribe Rodney Rothman. Though they aren’t confirmed as returning to direct, Philip Lord and Chris Miller will be overseeing the project and shepherding it along the way. The real question, though, is will it be set in medical school like the credits tag promised us?

Godzilla

The King of the Monsters stomped his way into theaters this summer and, for the most part, into our hearts. But not even Godzilla’s atomic breath could save the killer kaiju from the biting wit of an Honest Trailer. I don’t know what hurts more — the brutal honesty or Bryan Cranston dying way too soon. Stretch

Joe Carnahan’s Stretch has had a long, winding road from concept to completion, but the oft-delayed film now has a YouTube channel and posted two clips from the forthcoming feature. The comedy thriller, starring Patrick Wilson, Brooklyn Decker, Ed Helms, Chris Pine, and Jessica Alba, follows a limo driver (Wilson) who picks up a billionaire (Pine) and an increasingly strange series of guests over the course of the evening.

Jason Reitman

The Men, Women & Children director may be riding high off his film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, but we’re a little more excited about what he’s going to be doing next with his Live Read series at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). On Thursday, October 16, Reitman will be assembling an all-star cast for a live reading of the American Beauty screenplay. Previous entries have included Groundhog Day, Reservoir Dogs, American Pie, Boogie Nights and many more, and they’re always sold out, so godspeed trying to get tickets. In the meantime, you can test your Live Reads knowledge with this special quiz.

Now You See Me 2

Ah, Now You See Me, you could have been so much better than you were. The magician heist movie may not have done much for me, but evidently it did enough to warrant a sequel, which Lionsgate has announced will be dropping on June 10, 2016.

Lionsgate also announced a Christmas Day 2015 release date for the Robert Deniro/Zac Efron comedy Dirty Grandpa, which focuses on an uptight guy who gets hoodwinked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather to Florida for spring break. Hilarity, presumably, ensues.  [ComingSoon]

The Irishman

Sometime after he directs one million and one projects, including that Ramones biopic, a Sinatra passion project, and next year’s Silence, Martin Scorsese will finally get around to filming The Irishman. How do we know this? Al Pacino confirmed it in a recent interview, and also revealed that, in addition to Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, Bobby Cannavale has joined the cast. [Badass Digest]

  1. I could swear that it’s already been confirmed that Momoa has already signed to play Aquaman and is no longer a rumor. It’s just him, Snyder, and anyone attached to the movie being quiet about it and leaving that air of mystery.

  2. Brodie says:

Drax is going to kill Thanos. Calling it right now.

  3. Please, Draxx got his ass kicked by Ronin, Now if you want someone who I’d believe to get the finishing blow on Thanos I have two words: Rocket Racoon. IJS.
