Movie Morsels: Donald Glover Talks SPIDER-MAN Reboot, Chris Pratt Addresses INDIANA JONES RUMORS, and More

Whether or not you think there’s too many superhero movies in the world (and James Gunn, bless him, sure as hell doesn’t), there are plenty to be found in today’s Movie Morsels. We’ve got Joss Whedon explaining why Ant-Man isn’t Avengers: Age of Ultron, Donald Glover on whether he could yet don the mask of Spider-Man in the character’s next solo film, a snippet of new Fantastic Four footage, and perhaps the first video interview of once and future Star-Lord Chris Pratt on those rumors he’ll play Indiana Jones!

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron 3

Wondering why Ant-Man won’t be in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Director Joss Whedon shared the answer with Empire:

“Of all the heat I’ve ever taken, not having Hank Pym was one of the bigger things. The fact of the matter was, Edgar [Wright] had him first and by virtue of what Edgar was doing, there was no way for me to use him in this.”

Whedon added that original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, would be, after Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, one brainy guy too many for his movie:

“Ultron needs to be the brainchild of the Avengers, and in the world of the Avengers and the MCU, Tony Stark is that guy … It didn’t make sense to introduce a third scientist, a third sciencetician, to do that. It was hard for me, because I grew up on the comics, to dump that, but at the end of the day, it’s a more interesting relationship between Tony and Ultron if Tony was once like, ‘You know what would be a really great idea?’ They’re doing what they always do — which is jump in headfirst, and then go, ‘Sorry, world!’ But you have to make it their responsibility without just making it their fault.”

Spider-Man

Now that Marvel and Sony are rebooting Spider-Man (yet again), many fans are holding out hope that this incarnation of the wallcrawler could be Miles Morales rather than Peter Parker, and see Donald Glover in the role. Of course, Glover already voices Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, but is he back in the running for the role on the big screen (after a campaign to see him star in The Amazing Spider-Man)? Indiana Jones 5

Speaking with MTV from the red carpet of Sunday night’s 2015 Academy Awards, everyone’s best friend Chris Pratt says that while he’s not too intimidated by the prospect of playing Indiana Jones in a fifth film about the globe-trotting archaeologist/adventurer, it’s not a done deal yet:

“I don’t think it’s overwhelming to contemplate,” said Pratt. “The pressure would come because it’s such a great franchise, and you wouldn’t want to get it wrong. It would have to be perfect to do it, you know what I mean? So, we’ll see… It’s nothing until it’s something.”

Fantastic Four

It ain’t much, but there a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it snippet of new footage of bashful Benjamin J. Grimm in this Fantastic Four international trailer. Josh Trank’s film — starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan — arrives on August 7th.

Nicolas Cage screaming in Ghost Rider

Oliver Stone’s film about whisteblower Edward Snowden — titled, fittingly, Snowden — has just signed on the ubiquitous wild card Nicolas Cage to star as “a former U.S. Intelligence Official.” The film is currently shooting in Munich, and will be in production at various locations across the world through the middle of May. At Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony, director Laura Poitras’ nonfiction film about Snowden, Citizenfour, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary.

Morales wasn’t spiderman during the Civil war soo NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE

  2. Ian Boothby says:

Maybe Ant-Man is in Age of Ultron but you just can’t see him. He’s very small.

  3. text says:

Wish we could have Garfield back for civil war and glover for the reboot.. Wouldn’t mind Pratt wearing the fedora with Ford as his wheelchair ridden sidekick in the psychedelic sixties

  4. Rob Miller says:

I personally would like to see Donald Glover as Spidey….. Eventually. Not for as essential a role as Spidey’s in Civil War, that MUST be the Peter Parker we all grew up with, or since the comic book started

    • Dave Busby says:

No it doesn’t spiderman grew up in a poor neighborhood in Queens New York, he wasn’t raised by his parents, he was raised by an aunt and uncle. Peter Parker could be black, easily, or any ethnicity.  Furthermore the nature of spiderman’s costume allows every kid, to imagine he’s spiderman.

    • twiff says:

The MCU is distinct universe, so why does Peter Parker have to be a white guy? Seriously, there is nothing in his background or life experience that requires him to be white. Nick Fury used to be a white guy too, after all. Cast Donald Glover AS Peter Parker = best solution.

  5. Malpaso says:

Ugh, just leave Indiana Jones alone. It’s not a “franchise.” It was a series of films.
