Movie Morsels: DEADPOOL Is Banned in China for Too Much Violence, Nudity, and Profanity

Welcome back from your three-day weekend, America. (Hey, at least it’s a short work week!) Let’s get things started with today’s Movie Morsels, in which we have the latest on the eagerly awaited Deadpool. Plus, video interviews on X-Men: Apocalypse and Star Trek Beyond, and more!

Deadpool

Deadpool 3

The Merc with a Mouth is exhibiting a little too much mouth for our friends in Asia. Director Tim Miller’s adaptation of the Marvel comic Deadpool “has been denied permission to screen in China due to its violence, nudity and graphic language.” We’re guessing this will only contribute to its allure—not to mention to star Ryan Reynolds’ social media witticisms—here in the depraved West, where it will open on February 12.

X-Men: Apocalypse

In other Fox Marvel movie news… Simon Kinberg answers questions from fans in a new video Q&A on X-Men: Apocalypse. The writer-producer calls the sequel the biggest X-Men film yet, and the title villain (played by Oscar Isaac) the most powerful character we’ve yet seen in the X-Men’s screen universe. The fourth Marvel mutant movie from director Bryan Singer—co-starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn and Lucas Tillwill—will open everywhere on May 27.

Stan & Ollie

Laurel and Hardy

Finally today… We’ve just received word that two of today’s top comic actors, Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, will portray legendary comedians Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in the biopic, Stan & Ollie. The film focuses on the duo’s final UK tour in 1953. Jon S. Baird directs from a screenplay by Philomena writer Jeff Pope.
