Will the world’s most famous secret agent be traveling to a galaxy far, far away? We have new information in today’s Movie Morsels from the reigning James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Meanwhile, director Bryan Singer gives us more deets on the motivations of his Big Bad in X-Men: Apocalypse, while J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hosts open auditions this week. Plus, a bonus feature from the Ex-Machina Blu-ray, and more!

X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men Apocalypse

With X-Men: Days of Future Past — The Rogue Cut arriving on Blu-ray yesterday, director Bryan Singer has announced a few new details about the title villain of his next mutant movie, X-Men: Apocalypse (bowing on May 27, 2016). According to Singer, “X-Men has always centered around the fight between mutants and humans. This one’s a bit different. It deals with the concept of ancient mutanism, gods and men. It deals with issues that are global. Apocalypse makes no distinction between humans and mutants, only between the weak and the strong.” As for the film’s Cyclops, Jen Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler, Singer remarks, “These are very different characters than they were in the films X-Men 1, 2, and 3.”

X-Men: Apocalypse stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, Lucas Till, Ben Hardy, Lana Condor, and Olivia Munn.

Despite recent rumors and a remark by writer-star Simon Pegg, Daniel Craig is denying that he’s involved in the it-can’t-get-here-soon-enough Star Wars continuation. “Why would I ever bother doing something like that?” says Craig. “Fucking hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie?” Lest one think Craig is angry at Pegg, the current James Bond added, “Talk to Simon Pegg. He obviously knows way more than I do. He’s just jealous because he’s not in Star Wars. He’s got some issue with J.J. I don’t know what the f— it is. You need to talk to Simon about it.”

Since Pegg was confirmed to be appearing in The Force Awakens for director Abrams (as we saw in Star Wars‘ Comic-Con reel), we know Craig is wrong. Does this mean he’s just having a laugh and may yet appear in Episode VII? To be continued…

Suffragette

Suffragette

A new poster has arrived for Suffragette, the historical drama about the battle to earn women the right to vote. The release commemorates yesterday’s Emmeline Pankhurst Day, named in honor of one of the movement’s major champions, played in the film by Meryl Streep. The poster “utilises the colours purple, white and green, which were a key part of the Suffragette movement, with purple signifying dignity, white showing purity and green meaning hope. The colours are woven through the movie.” Helena Bonham Carter and Carey Mulligan (pictured above) co-star for director Sarah Gavron. Suffragette opens on October 23rd.
