Movie Morsels: BATMAN V SUPERMAN Update, New ULTRON Image, and More!

Another far too short weekend has come and gone, but who can complain — about anything really — when we’re living in the Golden Age of Superhero Cinema? Today’s Movie Morsels offers a little something on the two most anticipated super sagas of all: Warner Bros./DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Of course we’ve still found space to talk about a few quirky (and kinky) smaller films, including the Entourage movie and Fifty Shades of Grey. Yes, we welcome every kind of movie lover here!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Henry-Cavill

In the wake of last week’s online rumors that director Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would be split into two films, the Man of Steel himself has cleared the air, stating at the BAFTA tea party that the first film encounter between Supes and Bats (and the ensuing tussle) will indeed be contained within one film. When asked if he was injured in any of the film’s fight scenes, Cavill replied, “Are you kidding? I’m the Man of Steel.” There’s no word on whether Affleck has been asked the same question. But if he is, one hopes his response will be, “Are you kidding? I’m the Goddamn Batman.”

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Ultron! It’s impossible to say his name without smiling, isn’t it? Say it aloud with me, won’t you? “Ul-tron.” See? Smiles all around… To make our grins even wider, Hot Toys is teasing their upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron premium format figure of the film’s uber-baddie, offering us another look at the insane robot we love to hate.

Fifty Shades of Grey

I don’t know about you guys but I plan on spending most of my February in the Red Room, coming to terms with my sadomasochistic urges and taming the psychosexual beast that prowls within me. Which is why I’m especially stoked for the latest extended TV spot for Fifty Shades of Grey, director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling Twilight fan fict… er, novel. Watch stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson get down with their very bad selves below. Fifty Shades joins Rihanna it trying to make S&M mainstream (leading to the strangest conversations ever between parents and their children) on February 14th. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a little fan fiction of my own to write…

Entourage

Entourage

Never let it be said that the boys of Entourage aren’t willing to blur the distinction between life and art. After the first trailer for their TV show’s spinoff film debuted last month, the cast arrived early at yesterday’s Golden Globes to shoot a faux interview with real-life Globes commentator Carson Daly for their film. Kevin Connolly, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara, Adrian Grenier, and Jeremy Piven were on hand.

Carrie Pilby

True Grit

Hailee Steinfeld, who wowed us all with her Oscar-nominated performance as Mattie Ross in the Coen Brothers’ True Grit and who will next appear in Pitch Perfect 2, has just signed on to star in the title role of the film adaptation of Caren Lissner’s YA novel Carrie Pilby. Steinfeld’s character is a nineteen-year-old Harvard graduate facing a real world for which she’s woefully unprepared in producer Susan Johnson’s directorial debut. The film’s script is by Kara Holden and Dean Craig. Shooting is expected to begin in May.
