Movie Morsels: ASSASSIN’S CREED Casting News, First Look at Ridley Scott’s THE MARTIAN

Happy Memorial Day, America! And to the rest of the world, Happy Monday. But wherever you live, we’ve got a little something for you in today’s Movie Morsels, which features the latest actor linked to the Assassin’s Creed movie, as well as the first images from Ridley Scott’s The Martian, new photos from the set of Deadpool, a new poster for Joe Dante’s Burying the Ex, and official word on a Now You See Me trilogy.

Assassin’s Creed

Alicia Vikander

The indie hit Ex Machina has made an instant star out of its AI heroine, played by Alicia Vikander (pictured above). So it’s no surprise that the Swedish beauty is now in talks to star in huge Hollywood films. Vikander is reportedly discussing a role in Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, as well as in the next Bourne film. She’s thus expected to drop out of the more modest Tom Hanks-starring The Circle,  based on Dave Egger’s novel, to which she was previously attached and is likely to be replaced by Emma Watson.

Deadpool

Prepare to have your heart warmed. Because Ryan Reynolds’ latest photos from the production of Deadpool, feature a very special visitor to the film’s set: Tony Acevdeo, a young man battling Hodgkin’s Disease, who asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation if he could meet the Merc with a Mouth… Director Tim Miller’s adaptation of Marvel’s masked antihero, co-starring TJ Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Morena Baccarin, and Ed Skrein arrives on February 12, 2016. We here at Movie Morsels join a rapidly growing legion of folks in offering Tony our very best wishes.

The Martian

Despite our very mixed feelings about Prometheus, we’re still psyched for Sir Ridley Scott’s next big-screen science fiction film, The Martian, featuring Matt Damon as an astronaut stranded on Mars and desperately searching for a way home. So we’re happy to present the first images from the movie, which have just landed online thanks to Empire magazine. Co-starring Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover, The Martian debuts November 25th.

Now You See Me: The Second Act

Now You See Me 2

Lionsgate must be pretty damn confident in its Now You See Me sequel because the studio is already planning another follow-up to the 2013 surprise hit about magicians/com artists — Now You See Me 3. Meanwhile, production has reportedly wrapped on Now You See Me: The Second Act, which sees Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine return, with Masters of Sex star Lizzy Caplan filling in for Isla Fisher (all of whom are pictured above on set). The Jon M. Chu-directed film, written by Ed Solomon and Pete Chiarelli, opens on June 10, 2016.

Burying the Ex

Poor Anton Yelchin. Caught between Alexandra Daddario and Ashley Greene. What’s a guy to do? At least in Joe Dante’s latest horror comedy, Burying the Ex, the actor will have to tangle with an undead and very vengeful Greene (who plays the titular ex) before settling down with his one true love Daddario. Here’s the latest poster for the film, which lands in theaters and on VOD and iTunes on June 19th….
