More FROZEN Characters Are Coming to ONCE UPON A TIME

Warning: spoilers for season four of Once Upon a Time follow.

The season three finale of Once Upon a Time brought a few happy endings and one big reveal: Frozen’s Elsa arrived in Storybrooke. Specifically, she got sucked through a portal created in Rumplestiltskin’s basement in fairy tale land. It was the place where he stored the darkest of dark magic, and that says a lot coming from a character as twisted as him. Elsa’s spirit (or something) was trapped in an urn and spilled out. I hope this means she’s a villain, but it’s more likely she’ll be an unintentional, misunderstood bad guy like she is in the animated film.

Even though we saw the Queen of Arendelle sweep into the series, we only viewed her from behind. Her blue dress and pale hair made it easy to identify her (skip to two minutes for the chilling entrance):

The actress for Elsa hasn’t been cast yet, and ABC’s in the process of looking for the right person to play their ice queen. As suspected, they’re also casting additional characters from Frozen including Anna and Kristoff. TVLine has the character descriptions:

ELSA | The Queen of Arendelle, this late-20s/early-30s beauty long struggled to control her “chilling” powers and even unleashed upon her town an eternal winter during her coronation. Ultimately, she realized that the key to controlling her powers is love — namely, her bond with sister Anna — and now she is aware of the threat she poses if she were to lose control of her magic again.

ANNA | Elsa’s slightly younger sister is a fun-loving, fearless optimist who often gets herself into situations where she is in over her head, yet is able to triumph due to her resourcefulness and can-do spirit. She values her relationship with her sister above all else.

KRISTOFF | This handsome, hearty, salt-of-the-earth ice cutter spent most of his life alone (unless you count his reindeer). He has a sometimes-gruff demeanor that can hide his deep love for Anna and her sister Elsa. When we first meet Kristoff on Once, he is adjusting to life at the castle — including sleeping indoors for the first time in his life.

Let’s speculate. Since we meet Kristoff adjusting to life at the castle, it seems like we’ll see him and Anna in Arendelle. If he’s moved into the castle and has come to love Elsa, it’s reasonable to assume he and Anna have been married or at least together for a while. Disney has been more progressive with Once Upon a Time. If Mulan can be bisexual, they’re probably okay with Anna and Kristoff cohabitating without being hitched. Anyway, maybe Anna and Kristoff will have to travel from Arendelle to Storybrooke to help Elsa? I’m completely on board with that.

And in case you were wondering, yes, TVLine asked about the possibility of a CGI Olaf. The show bosses laughed.

Are you excited to see Frozen characters in Once Upon a Time? Or do you want to let it go? Share your feelings in the comments.
