Help Make a MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES Movie a Reality!

Based on the books by Kerry Greenwood, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries has run for three decadent seasons, with a brief hiatus to accommodate Essie Davisrising star. Cut from the same cloth as Poirot and other Agatha Christie-style crime puzzles, Davis’ bold Phryne Fisher is far more sardonic and brassy than the fussy Belgian detective. She’s more likely to scream out the back of a rolling train car or score some great sex with a Russian dancer than fiddle with making her mustaches just so.

Still, it’s easy to see him calling her up—long distance to Melbourne—for a second perspective on particularly tricky murders.

The show is a blast, marked as much by its intrigue as its jazz era design, and now the universe is set for a feature length film because of Kickstarter. The Nerdy Bird wrote about the project just a few days ago, and they’ve already blown past their initial AU$250,000 goal ($199,723 in US dollars) and are now rounding $400k in stretch goals with almost a month more to go.

That more than covers showrunners Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger’s gap in financing and proves the loyalty of the fanbase to their investors, ensuring that Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears will move forward with that fantastically slick title to launch the character to her rightful Bond-level, international adventurer status. The production plans to take the story outside the Melbourne city limits to places such as Morocco, Israel, and London.

Director Tony Tilse’s pitch describes the feature as having “the witty intrigue of Indiana Jones, the opulent style of a Merchant Ivory Production, and the feminism of Thelma and Louise.” So put that shutupandtakemymoney.gif and your wallet to good use immediately.
