Minimalist Superhero Masks are Pretty Far-Out

Minimalist art has become quite a trendy thing with aspiring artists all over the internet these days. We’ve seen some really cool examples lately of really talented creative types from all over the world applying their artistic chops — and a mid-century modern design aesthetic — to geek properties like Star Trek, Orphan Black, and several others. Of course, we knew that the world of comic book superheroes was going to represent sooner or later.

Now a Ukrainian graphic designer by the name of Yuri Krasnoshchok has taken a minimalist approach to the famous masks of superheroes, or in some cases, just their faces. Aside from comic book heroes, among his collection — which he’s simply named “Masks of Superheroes” — are pieces also paying homage to other beloved geek properties like Star Wars and Doctor Who. There are even some Autobots and Decepticons from the Transformers franchise thrown in for good measure.

Mostly though, it’s classic comic book heroes on display here. From the pages of DC Comics, you’ve got Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, the Flash, and Superman (thank Krypton for that identifying spit curl)! Marvel is represented with Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine, Daredevil, Deadpool, Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Cyclops, Venom and Spider-Man. Although I must say, aside from Catwoman, where are my DC and Marvel ladies at? You’d think Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Scarlet Witch and Storm have some pretty identifying headgear. Maybe they’ll get their own series eventually?

You can check out all 29 images in the “Mask of Superheroes” collection in our gallery below.

Which one of these pieces of art is your favorite? And which classic superhero character do you think they left out, and needs their own piece? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
