Minimalist fan art seems to be all the rage these days. The “less is more” artistic movement of minimalism, which was hugely popular in the sixties and seventies, has become the style of choice for artists wanting to pay tribute to their favorite pop culture properties (without infringing on copyrights).

In the past couple of years alone, we’ve seen minimalist pieces based on everything from designs from the original Star Trek, to posters based on popular movies, to retro-futuristic interplanetary travel posters. All of them are a respite from the lazy, over-photoshopped posters Hollywood uses to sell us on franchises nowadays.

Now an artist from Brazil by the name of Fred Birchal has done a remarkable new series based on iconic costumes from famous films. Among his series you’ll find John Travolta’s famous white suit from Saturday Night Fever, Dorothy’s plaid skirt from The Wizard of Oz, and Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress from The Seven Year Itch. Of course, Star Wars is represented with the iconic costumes of Darth Vader, Han Solo and C-3PO.

More recent films are included in Birchal’s series as well, such as Daniel Craig’s tux from his first outing as Bond in Casino Royale, and the Bride’s yellow jumpsuit from Kill Bill. Some of the more unlikely choices in Birchal’s series include costumes from Argo, Dallas Buyer’s Club and Frida.
