The addicting pixelated game Minecraft is hitting the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year and those who already have a copy won’t have to pay full price.
Mojang and Microsoft have just announced on Xbox Wire that the tree-punching title will release on the Xbox One in August for $19.99. For those who already have the game on the Xbox 360, you can upgrade it for only $4.99. Your save files from the 360 version of Minecraft can be imported onto the Xbox One along with most of the skin and texture packs, but if you purchase one of the packs on the Xbox One, you can’t transfer it back to the 360.
Those who don’t have a Microsoft console shouldn’t feel left out either. Mojang has also revealed that current PlayStation 3 and Vita Minecraft owners will get the same benefits as Xbox One and 360 owners for the same price. The downside, however, is that Mojang is still working with Sony on how to upgrade the PS3 and Vita retail copies of Minecraft and it’s still uncertain if this will be a possibility. The upside though, if you’re a Sony console owner and new to the game, you only need to purchase Minecraft once to play it on either the PS3 or Vita. The current PS3 DLC will work on both platforms as well, but there isn’t a solid release date as of yet.
Sadly, cross-platform play will not be allowed between any of the consoles and save files from the newer consoles to the older ones won’t work so make sure you know where you want to build your Skyrim recreations.
