Mike Rowe Returns to Television This Week because SOMEBODY’S GOTTA DO IT

Back when Discovery was still finding its footing in television’s modern age, it wasn’t just Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of MythBusters that were giving voice to the re-structuring network. One of the most high-profile personalities to come out of Discovery’s 00s era was that of Dirty Jobs host Mike Rowe. Presented as the “every man” of Discovery, Rowe trekked across the country in search of the most insane jobs that people do every day to make sure the rest of the modern world runs without a hitch. Many episodes were fascinating, and Rowe’s reactions to the jobs in question were mesmerizing as he, more often than not, put himself smack in the middle of the danger zone.

Unfortunately, like many fun series such as Dirty Jobs, ratings eventually ticked down and Discovery cancelled the series, leaving Rowe to float around the television landscape for the last few years. However, that all changes starting this week as Rowe has gotten a majority of the Dirty Jobs team back together for a new, similarly-themed show on CNN called Somebody’s Gotta Do It, and guess what! There’s a trailer:

It’s really going to be nice to have Mike back on our television screens in a weekly format. Much like Adam and Jamie, Rowe has the magical ability to make even the most mundane of tasks interesting because of his highly exuberant personality, which is exactly what we need more of on television these days.

Somebody’s Gotta Do It premieres Wednesday, October 8th at 9/8c on CNN.

Mike always put a smile on my face when his show was on 🙂

  2. LW says:

Why has this man not been given a major role in a big animated movie yet? Pixar or Dreamworks needs to get on the ball here.

  3. Arnold says:

The message I just wrote is regarding his address to Congress , if you missed it .

  4. Arnold says:

As an old Welder of 50 years + , I applaud Mike , I never heard anyone in my life / 70 yrs. old , make as much sense as him , in such a short period of time , I have been watching the skilled trades dwindle  away & become diluted , for the last 35 years & they’re just now waking up to the realization , that this is the Men &women that built America , And you don’t do these kind of jobs sitting behind a desk , I know some of the desk jobs are very important , but let’s face we’ve been teaching our kids to become something , that don’t require hard physical work , and you don’t get your hands Dirty , But not everybody can be a Psychology Major , just because it’s easy !!!

    • Marvino says:

it (jobs and careers) can’t all be about marketing, advertising, sales training, advising, bookkeeping, etc.  At some point someone actually has to MAKE or GROW something to be consumed.  I agree Arnold.

I’ve been a fan of Mike’s for many years.  I enjoy Dirty Jobs and respect how Mike just got down and did things, but I have more respect for how he is working to restore our skilled workforce and spread the word that America needs these skilled workers to succeed.  Great job Mike, Somebody’s Gotta Do It, and  you stepped up to the plate.  And, BTW, Go O’s!

    • Karen says:

now we agree on that ! at first they were doing interesting things, but now it’s mainly that silly ex child star and Hineyman who seems like his mission is to let the world know he’s the smartest of the smart.

  13. Don Marshall says:

  15. jm5150 says:

CAN’T WAIT!! Dirty Jobs is one of my favorite shows of all time. It was one of the ONLY reality tv shows that was actual reality. Unlike EVERYTHING else that is scripted and staged and utterly stupid. Dirty Jobs was refreshing, educational and extremely entertaining. I can only hope his new show will be much of the same
