Michelle Veintimilla’s Firefly Will Fire Up GOTHAM Season 2

Fox’s Batman prequel series, Gotham is adding a new villain to its lineup for the upcoming second season. Michelle Veintimilla has just signed on for a two-episode arc as Firefly.

And before you ask, yes, Firefly has traditionally been a male character in the Batman comics. The first Firefly was Garfield Lynns, a renegade special effects artist created in 1952 by France Herron and Dick Sprang. A second Firefly, Ted Carson, was introduced in 1959 by Batman co-creator Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff. The Garfield Lynns incarnation of Firefly has been used on Batman: The Animated Series, The Batman, and Arrow.

Veintimilla’s Firefly is Bridgit Pike, a young woman who is forced to aid her brothers in their arson related crimes. The initial report essentially lays out Bridgit’s character trajectory on Gotham, so consider this your SPOILER WARNING! Stop reading now if you don’t want to know how this will play out!

“When [Bridgit] catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Catwoman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s fire-starting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.”

Prior to her role on Gotham, Veintimilla appeared in Those Who Kill, Not Cool, Redwood Time, and One Life To Live. She is slated to appear in the fifth and sixth episodes of Gotham Season 2.
