In Ant-Man, screen legend Michael Douglas made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man and the mentor of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). And while Marvel is usually very careful about lining up performers for multiple films, Douglas was only contracted for a single appearance!
During a recent interview, Douglas confirmed that heâs not currently contracted to reprise his role as Pym. But he certainly seems up for a return appearance:
Iâm not signed up to anything more,â related Douglas. âIâve learned a whole lot and would look forward to more if it comes my way. But if not, Iâve enjoyed the experience… Now that I understand a bit more about Hank Pym too. I think in this one I had to carry a lot of plot and exposition. In the next one I hope things get a little more bizarre⦠the Quantum Realm!
Douglas also spoke about the Ant-Man rewrite by Rudd and Adam McKay that occurred after Edgar Wright left the project. âPaul and Adam rewrite bought a lot more humour,â said Douglas. âI accused Paul of bringing a lot more humour to his character! Michael Pena can take care of himself. I on the other hand was left giving the exposition and the plot, which I was happy to do⦔
Marvelâs Kevin Feige has already stated that Evangeline Lilly will appear in a future Marvel film that follows up on her mid-credits scene with Pym. So it looks like there is a strong possibility that Douglas could return as well.
Would you be up for an Ant-Man movie that takes place in the â80s with a digitally de-aged Douglas and whomever Marvel finally casts as Janet van Dyne? Activate your Pym Particles and share your thoughts in the Quantum Realm below!
