Michael C. Hall Looks Ready to Rock as HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH

There’s always a risk, when the star of a show leaves, that the magic that propelled the first run will disappear. But if you choose your star’s replacements well? Well, then it’s not really so much of a concern. Like Michael C. Hall over here, whose takeover of the titular role from Andrew Rannells (who took it over from Neil Patrick Harris) in Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch begins tonight — if you’re reading this on Thursday, October 16th — and will be anything but magical by the looks of this new teaser.

Sure, OK, yeah: it’s not much Hall but it’s enough to see the twinkle. The spark in his eye that means he’s in it, committed, and ready to rock the angry inches off of everyone. The comedy rock-musical centers around Hedwig, the East German transgender singer and songwriter in a fictional rock and roll band. After falling for an American soldier with plans to marry, Hedwig undergoes an unsuccessful sex change operation, leaving her with a dysfunctional one-inch mound of flesh between her legs “with a scar running down it like a sideways grimace on an eyeless face.” So, naturally, Hedwig is very angry, frustrated, and ready to project those feelings into song.

Hall is slated to play Hedwig through the end of the year — his last performance is scheduled for January 4, 2015. So if you live close enough to Broadway, well…what are you waiting for? Get yourself a ticket!

Have you seen Hedwig and the Angry Inch? Excited for Michael C. Hall to take over the role? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments.

Saw it last night, Michael C. Hall was amazing! He’s in great shape, looks fantastic in drag in and his undies. 😉

I think Michael C. Hall physically looks PERFECT for the role, with the strong facial features & such. In most of his work that I’ve seen he plays such “lie in wait” type characters, so this will be an exciting change of pace of his usual rep!
