One of the most distinctive traits of DC big bad Darkseid is his gray, rock-like skin that makes him look like a gigantic golem, or a sentient mountain. It’s not necessarily easy to convey that feeling in three dimensions as a plastic action figure, which is why Mezco has taken a big leap on their latest version, and made the lord of Apokolips primarily of polystone. A rock-like substance made from acrylic, polystone is normally used for collectible statues, as it’s durable and hefty but not all that flexible. So some previous action figures have had polystone parts, but a figure that’s predominantly made that way is new, and especially one that also has 28 points of articulation and casted metal armor accents. This allows for interchangeable magnetic faces, all of which can use the light-up Omega beam feature.
The Mother Box is also metal, and magnetically clips to his belt. No expense has been spared to make this the ultimate 1/12 scale Darkseid, and it’s quality worth paying for, at $180.
What toy collector couldn’t love a hand-painted, light-up face like that? He also comes with a display stand that grips the figure at the waist, because you really don’t want anything polystone to fall over. Man of steel, prepare to meet uberman of rock. Let battles begin. (Superman sold separately.)
Are you as pumped as we are for this especially rocky arch-villain, or do raw materials matter not in your playroom? Carve out some of your thoughts on the matter in our comments section below.
