METAL GEAR SURVIVE Is Full of Wormholes and Zombies

The post-Hideo Kojima era of Metal Gear has begun, and it’s not what anyone was expecting! Prior to Gamescom, Konami has revealed the next game in the franchise, Metal Gear Survive, will take the series in a brand new direction.

IGN posted the reveal trailer for Metal Gear Survive, which takes place almost immediately after Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Snake/Big Boss only makes a cameo appearance, as he and his allies escape the destruction of Mother Base. The currently unnamed protagonist of Metal Gear Survive isn’t quite as lucky, as he and other survivors of the attack are sucked through a wormhole (!) and into an alternate, zombie-infested universe. Of course, Konami isn’t calling them zombies. Instead, they are “biological threats,” and the trailer hints that there’s at least one Metal Gear waiting to wipe out the survivors.

Metal Gear Survive will feature an emphasis on four-player online cooperative play, but Konami noted that the series’ stealth gameplay will also be incorporated into the title.

“We are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the Metal Gear franchise,” said Konami’s Tomotada Tashiro in a statement. “Metal Gear Survive the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multi-player experience.”

This game is going to be the first test of whether the Metal Gear series can truly find new life without Kojima’s guidance, and if gamers will accept this new iteration of it. Metal Gear Survive will be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.
