MEGO-Inspired HARLEY QUINN Releasing Later This Year

Figures Toy Company has been reproducing a popular line of MEGO (pronounced mee-go) DC Comics figures from the 1970s, occasionally introducing character that was not a part of the original roster. The original line was produced for the S.S. Kresage Company store that would later evolve into the Kmart Corporation. Introducing a new figure to the line is the case with the news that Harley Quinn will be released with the third wave of FTC MEGOs later this year. While Harley was a creation of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series, her initial design for the noir-inspired series was very much in line with the first appearances from some of the members of Batman‘s iconic rogues gallery.

The Harley figure will stand at the standard series figure height of 8″ tall and comes with a figure-specific cloth costume tailored to match Harley’s first appearance. The hands and face are the only exposed molded features, with detachable black and red booties that hearken back to the the green ones used on the original Kresage/MEGO Robin figure. One of the best features for collectors is the resealable plastic casing that each of the FTC figures come packaged in. That means no unseemly destruction of the packaging when you want to open up your brand new figure. Photos of the Harley figure can be found below in our gallery.

Series 1 of the Kresage MEGO-style reproduction line includes Superman, The Riddler, Shazam, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Mr. Mxyzptlk. Series 2 includes Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Dr. Sivana, Green Arrow, Penguin, and Aquaman.

13th Dimension has an excellent roundup of some of the already re-released MEGO figures, as well as some of the upcoming figures.
