Meet Your New Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot

After months of speculation and weird fan Photoshop mock-ups, the DC Cinematic Universe finally has its Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot. The Israeli actress, who has made a name for herself in the Fast & the Furious series, will star as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince alongside Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in 2015’s Zack Snyder-directed Batman vs Superman. It’s unknown how large the role will be, but it’s significant in that this is the iconic character’s first feature film incarnation.

Originally, it was reported that Gadot was testing for a role believed to be Wonder Woman alongside G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘s Elodie Yung and Olga Kurylenko. Now, thanks to Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder, we know who won that Paradise Island throwdown.

In a statement presumably made from the window of his new invisible jet, Snyder said, “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

But, that’s not all, folks! Variety reports that Warners is looking to cast the villain in the film with Zero Dark Thirty and 300: Rise of an Empire star Callan Mulvey being eyed as the top candidate. Who could that villain be? My money is on Starro because why not.

Batman vs. Superman is set for release on July 17, 2015. What do you think of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman? Who else would you like to see in the film? Let us know in the comments below or wrap your lasso of truth around me on Twitter.

I would like to see to Megan Fox as wonder woman, she has a beauty body or maybe GG could be more weight…

Preferiría a Megan Fox o si GG gana más peso se vería como la mujer maravilla

  2. Misterprickly says:

When is Hollywood gonna get it right?
You can’t just pull names out of a hat marked “Who’s hot right now?”

Gal is too short, too small, too thin, too young and too WRONG for the role.

What we need for this role would be a young Joanie Laurer (a pre porn and drugs Joanie Laurer) maybe Lindsay Hayward (isis the amazon). Then again… Lindsey’s about 6′ 10″

  3. iampoz says:

@vs I want to see The Yao Ming Story starring Peter Dinklage as Yao Ming that would be a brilliant film.

Also its the internet, if no one was bitchin it would mean it was broken.

  4. anonimo says:

Am I the only one that thinks Callan Mulvey looks JUST like Steve Trevor?

  5. vs says:

@RG: “On the other hand, you have people simply shaming her for being skinny. Guys, this is NOT OK.”

So if someone wants to make a movie about Yao Ming and the makers of this imaginary movie wanted Peter Dinklage to play the part of Yao Ming you’d think that was a fine idea as well?

Is it sexist when we apply the same criticism of ‘doesn’t look right to play this character’ to male actors or only the female actors?

  6. Kelly Reed says:

    Lucy Lawless. End of discussion.

  7. Suzanne Lee says:

She has the potential to fit the role. I loved her performance in Fast n Furious. I love this comparison of how the internet reacted to Ben Affleck’s casting of Batman, and how it’s reacting to Gal Gadot’s casting of Wonder Woman. http://bit.ly/1bk9iZt

  8. Steve says:

Gal Gadot is a great choice. She is beautiful and can bring action. She was in the Israeli Army and I’m sure she can “thicken up” a bit for the movie. It doesn’t come out for over a year. Everybody should be less critical and just look forward to the movie. After you see her performance, then critique away!

  9. Connerk2000 says:

@ Eric……. Wonder Woman isn’t suppose to be a white woman. She is suppose to be of Medaterranean descent. So, a Israeli woman is a perfect fit. And Gal Gadot does not have a beak nose.

  10. Rocky says:

    1. Too young, WW should be around 35-40.

    2. While some website databases are listing Gadot around 5′ 11″, WW is 6′ before heels. If they have been down playing her height before, they need to turn it around and give her the presence she deserves.

    3. I am not worried about WW’s curves, I am worried about her musculature. While she is an Amazonian princess, she is foremost an Amazonian warrior. She needs to look like she can cleave a man in two, as she has been known to do.

    4. Was Lucy Lawless busy with something else?

  11. lisa says:

better yet this just hit me drew Berrymore would be the best

  12. LIsa says:

nice but linda had more shape to her as in hips not a toothpick

  13. RG says:

She was in the Israeli army. I’m PRETTY SURE she can beef up if she wants to, and for what they’ll be paying her, I’m PRETTY SURE she’ll do that… yunno, like how all actors do for all things that require it? She’s got the brow and the jawline for it, and I’m sure she’ll have the black hair and blue contacts.

Anyway, what does it matter? It’s a Zack Snyder movie that already has one of the leads much more horribly cast. The fact that this is getting such a reaction really just makes me think there’s something subconscious boiling to the surface here.

  14. I think Jamie Alexander would have been a better choice for the role. Maybe this could work as well.

  15. judith caroline says:

Um. How come WW is in a film with batman and superman? Why doesn’t she get her own movie? (is this going to be like daredevil and Elektra-where Elektra gets her own movie after being in daredevil?)
I read WW when I was a kid but stopped when it started getting boring when she was ‘domesticated’… She needs her own movie. Directed by a woman… yeah.

Also, like we need ANOTHER film with batman or superman… let alone both. C’mon!

  16. Bill T. says:

Wonder Woman or Waif Woman? I take nothing away from Gal as far as having some action chops. However, anyone who has read comics knows that Wonder Woman is a heavy-hitting powerhouse. She is elegant, graceful, imposing, and fierce. Gal doesn’t cut that same silhouette.

  17. T_ says:

Ummm…she is no Wonder Woman. Can’t Hollywood ever get it right?

  18. Atte says:

I’m more interested in the villain. One villain/ness form each, or just Lex and perhaps Brainiac? If the first, it should be Lex, Cheetah/Dr Psycho and Joker/Scarecrow. Anyway, I’m very excited!

  19. Jerry says:

I don’t necessarily think they are saying she needs to be busty, but Wonder Woman is supposed to be something of a warrior, and bony does not portray warrior. She should at least have muscle tone. You shouldn’t be able to count her ribs…

  20. RG says:

(Dunno where my comment went, sorry if this is a duplicate)

OK, there are two schools of thought at work here. One is OK, one is totally not OK.

    – First, people saying she doesn’t suit the character for more nuanced/essential reasons? Fair enough. That’s just like the Ben Affleck as Batman argument. However, I will say this: she was an absolute badass in those last couple Fast & the Furious movies (which are not the douchefests you might expect them to be, and are actually fantastic action films). This is a case where her skills make up for any physical discrepancy, I am certain.

    – On the other hand, you have people simply shaming her for being skinny. Guys, this is NOT OK. When people are having a conversation about the unfair standards for beauty placed on women, I know you think you’re being open-minded when you say “Yeah, plus, I LIKE ladies with a little meat on their bones!”, but you are not. That objectifies women just the same. Little girls don’t get psychological complexes just from looking at a skinny woman… they get psychological complexes from hearing obsessive, specific descriptions of how a woman is supposed to look–whether the preference of the day is for large OR small women.

As a human who is about to raise a little girl, I entreat you to cut this crap out over the next couple decades, please. I don’t say any of this to try to shame anyone, but simply to make you guys think of an angle you might not have previously understood: that the problem isn’t WHAT ideal physical standard we’ve created for beauty, but the fact that we have one AT ALL.

  22. Jason says:

I’m wondering where all these people who’ve probably never read a Wonder Woman comic in their lives, get the idea that Wonder Woman is built and powerful. She’s not. She is curvier than Gal Gadot, but so is EVERY WOMAN in comics. They’re meant to be an ideal woman, not a real one.

As for the idea that she’s an AMAZON.. Do you even know what that means in terms of Wonder Woman? Amazons were not just warriors. Amazon basically meant “advanced society of all women”. That’s about it. Amazons used to be scientists, poets, philosophers, inventors, athletes, and more. They’ve only been boiled down to just warriors recently. They used to be a whole lot more.

  23. Anthony says:

Don’t let her skinny frame fool you. She can Krav Maga your ass.

  24. Hoot4Owls says:

I completely agree with some of you, she really needs to gain some weight and get some curves! Comic women have always been know for their curves and voluptuous beautiful bodies, why do they always pick stick figures to play them?

  25. kyle says:

Yup. She’s a woman and an actress. Checks out for Wonder Woman.

  26. Kyle says:

Yup, she’s a woman and an actress. Checks out for Wonder Woman.

  27. Jaclyn says:

She is beautiful but she does not have an Amazonian build. I would like for Wonder Woman to be a little curvy and statuesque.
Wonder Woman is not a size 0-2 is all I am saying!

  28. anna says:

Indeed. Wonder Woman can’t be a pre-pubescent waif with her collar-bone and ribs sticking out.

  29. Annika says:

Underwhelmed. Wonder Woman has meaty muscles and a presence! This girl seems…wilted. I’m sure she’s lovely, and with the power of CGI and quick edits, she’ll pass…but…meh.

  30. Xoandre says:

Gal looks good. Classic beauty is perfect for WW. She does not need DDD’s to play the character. I am certain – if they deem it necessary – they can pad the costume or digitally enhance for the fan boys who think WW needs to be huge.

And as far as Callan Mulvey, unless they are doing another alien villain, he has the bold looks of Lex Luthor.

  31. Anna says:

Face is perfect, but she needs to get a lot more buff & curvy to really be Wonder Woman. She has the hips of a preteen ATM.
