Meet the Women of MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN

Next month, director Tim Burton is throwing an open enrollment for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children in a new film based on the novel by Ransom Riggs. Eva Green plays the title character, Miss Peregrine, protector of the “peculiar children” (and a little peculiar herself). But she’s far from the only kick-ass woman in the film.

20th Century Fox has released a new featurette for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children that focuses on the movie’s primary female characters. One thing to keep in mind is that all of the peculiar children have some sort of gift or physical ability that makes them special. They’re also hated and feared by forces that don’t understand them. It’s kind of like the X-Men, except most of the powers these kids have aren’t exactly meant for offense.

The video gives the most attention to Emma Bloom, a young woman played by Ella Purnell. Emma’s power is that she can control air, and the footage demonstrates some of the various ways that she can bend it to her will. What it doesn’t show is the downside of those abilities, which force Emma to be weighted down lest she literally float away forever.

Two of the other girls are only slightly touched upon: the pyrokinetic Olive Abroholos Elephanta (Lauren McCrostie), and Claire Densmore (Raffiella Chapman), a girl who has a monstrous mouth behind her head. Green is also given the chance to show off Miss Peregrine’s ability to transform into a bird, but she seemed more excited about the fact that Peregrine is actually a warrior. We even get to see her personally dispatch a monster with a crossbow, just to establish how far she’s willing to go for her charges.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will be released on Friday, September 30. Which of the films female characters are you most intrieged by? Let us know in the comment section below!
