Meet ELECTRA WOMAN AND DYNA GIRL in the Film’s First Full Trailer

Thankful though we are to be living through the heyday of superhero cinema, any fan among us is sure to have one or two complaints about the genre’s big screen state. Some feel that the films can veer too dark and cynical. Some take issue with the deficit of strong female heroes at the centers of these movies. And some have felt underwhelmed by the modern era of crime fighters’ fashion sense, so to speak. No matter which of these items tops your checklist of complaints, however, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl looks to have you covered.

Forty years after the broadcast of the original Electra Woman and Dyna Girl series, Legendary and Sony Pictures are releasing a feature film adaptation, the first full trailer for which premiered today over at MTV. Unlike the 1976 TV show, which was aimed at children, the forthcoming EWDG flick has a bit more of an adult-friendly bent. A few jokes about Kegels and some coarse language notwithstanding, this new take on Electra Woman and Dyna Girl seems as joyful and wide-eyed as its namesake.

In the tradition of a lot of recently revamped children’s projects, the new Electra Woman and Dyna Girl sees the small-potatoes heroes leaving their cozy homes in Ohio to fight crime on a larger scale. Naturally, a few problems arise, including more treacherous heroes and even what appears to be a falling out.

If you recognize either of the titular heroines, it’s likely from YouTube. Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart got their start in web series like DailyGrace and My Drunk Kitchen, respectively, and have since gone on to appear in projects like Attack of the Show, Smosh: The Movie, and Camp Takota.

Though originally optioned as a series reboot (the second attempt at such following a never-made 2001 endeavor with Markie Post in the lead role), Electra Woman and Dyna Girl will instead be a straight-to-video film, available for digital viewing on June 7 and on DVD on July 5.
