Within a few days, Marvel and Sony Studios may have their new Spider-Man.
Several reports have indicated that six finalists for the part of Spider-Man were in Atlanta earlier today for screentests in front of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal, as well as Joe and Anthony Russo; the directors of Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming two-part film, Avengers: Infinity War.
Enderâs Game star Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland (The Impossible) were both among the final six potential Spider-Men, alongside Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Lintz (Pixels), Charlie Rowe (Red Band Society), and Judah Lewis (Demolition). Earlier reports that Butterfield had already been offered the part of Peter Parker appear to be false.
Whoever gets to be the new Spider-Man will make his debut in the role during Civil War before going on to star in a new Spider-Man film in 2017. But because Civil War is already in production, Marvel and Sony need to make their choice as soon as possible.
Captain America: Civil War is already loaded with characters, including Chris Evans as Captain America; Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man; Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow; Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier; Anthony Mackie as The Falcon; Paul Bettany as Vision; Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye; Don Cheadle as War Machine; Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch; Paul Rudd as Ant-Man; and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. The film hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
