Max Rockatansky and Detective Max Payne have two things in common: their shared first name and a tie to successful works in both the film and video game industry, with Mad Max and Max Payne. It only makes sense that someone would come along and create a mash-up of the two. That is exactly what YouTube user Zapruder Pictures did with its latest fan film. Witness how perfect the combo is in the above video.
The description reads:Â “What if Mad Max Rockatansky and Max Payne were actually the same person? They were both cops, they had their families killed, and they live in a world where norse mythology is key!”
In the video itself, we see Max Payne, cheetah-print tie and all–thrown into the barren wasteland where the Fury Road lies. After musing about his life as a “road warrior searching for a righteous cause” and the death of his family, he runs into trio of War Boys. It turns out that wiping out the half-lifes was a piece of cake for the duel-wielding detective.
The creation–which spans all of two and a half minutes–was written and directed by Guillermo de Oliveira, with a whole host of talented folks behind the visual FX, make-up, sound design, and more. The attention to detail is undeniable and impressive to say the least.
The video couldn’t come at a better time, seeing as both the Mad Max game and Mad Max: Fury Road hit shelves earlier this week. As for Max Payne, the last entry in the series that we saw was 2012’s Max Payne 3. There was a Max Payne film back in 2008, but it’s probably best that we try to forget it ever happened.
