Matt’s Top 5 Moments of FYF Festival in Los Angeles

<3 D’ANGELOOOOOOOO <3

Ahem, excuse me.

A festival that regularly throws down at the end of the summer has a lot stacked against it, but LA’s FYF festival made itself a worthy contender among the bigger names this year. I was there all weekend long to catch some of my favorite musicians, some for the first time, and have my first experience with this rising music festival.

Though the fest started on a sour note with Frank Ocean’s cancellation, the organizers more than recovered with the addition of Kanye West, whose hour-long performance reminded everyone in the audience why he is one of the most widely known musicians of the last ten years. Though the grounds around the festival were a bit awkward to navigate (circumnavigating the LA Colisuem grew tiresome), the sheer amount of fantastic music more than made up for it. As I mention in the video above, some of my favorite acts were Morrissey, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Run The Jewels, Neon Indian, and perhaps my favorite musician of all time, D’Angelo.

Though I most certainly had festival fatigue going into FYF, I definitely would not have wanted to miss seeing some legendary performers and making this ridiculous .GIF of Neon Indian looking philosophical:

Check out the video above for my top five FYF moments, and if you are intrigued by the fest and want to get a feel for the type of music they generally book, be sure to check out my FYF playlist below to see if it is the kind of shindig you might be into next year.
