Matt Smith Talks About Tea

It’s likely the most British show the British Broadcasting Corporation could possibly make. A new series coming to BBC One entitled Victoria Wood’s Nice Cup of Tea has the TV actress and comedienne talking about the time-tested English tradition of drinking tea. Why bring this up, besides to assuage my inherent Anglophilia? It’s because a clip that was posted on the YouTubes last week features Doctor Who star Matt Smith talking about tea and his and the Doctor’s enjoyment thereof. He is a delight. Now, I’m off to drink more Earl Grey.

And, just because I like to get people excited, here’s BBC America‘s trailer for the next episode, “Cold War,” which will air this Saturday at 8/7c, followed by Orphan Black and The Nerdist.

  2. Ross says:

There’s just as much(or as little) potential ritual in making a decent cup of coffee. Of course, if we hadn’t had that little spat with the mother country, we’d probably still be a nation of tea-drinkers. Now, back to my paint-thinner-strength cup of Scottish Breakfast Tea…

This looks nice. I love Victoria Wood, too.

also if there’s anything we’ve learned from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, it’s that earth is the only planet in the galaxy where you can get a good cup of tea

  5. I was sipping on “Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.” long before Jean-Luc placed his first order — but, as an American, I don’t quite understand the British fascination with the ritual Matt Smith mentioned. The boiling kettle, the teapot, loose tea leaves, all that stuff.

Now that’s a long dark tea time for the soul if I ever saw one!
