Matt Damon Never Stops Fighting in New Trailer for THE MARTIAN

In Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, The Martian, Astronaut Mark Watney finds himself trapped on Mars with limited resources and a very small chance at rescue. Next month, director Ridley Scott’s adaptation of The Martian will hit the big screen with Matt Damon starring as Mark Watney.

20th Century Fox has released a new 30-second trailer for The Martian that depicts the incident in which Watney was separated from his crew as well as his messages to NASA, which are met with wild applause. This trailer also features a glimpse of the family that Watney is desperately trying to live for as he promises everyone back on Earth that he will “never stop fighting.”

The Martian is more than just the story of Mark Watney. The burden of Watney’s survival also falls on his crew, which includes Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain), Rick Martinez (Michael Peña), Chris Beck (Sebastian Stan), Beth Johanssen (Kate Mara), and Alex Vogel (Aksel Hennie). Back on Earth, Chiwetel Ejiofor costars in the film as Vincent Kapoor, with Jeff Daniels as Teddy Sanders, Kristen Wiig as Annie Montrose, Sean Bean as Mitch Henderson, and Donald Glover as Rich Purnell. Ejiofor and Daniels are briefly glimpsed in the current trailer.

Fox has given The Martian one of the most unique marketing campaigns in recent memory, including a promo video featuring Neil deGrasse Tyson hosting a science TV program in the year 2029! NASA has also come out in support of The Martian by illustrating the novel and the film’s use of real technology in the story.

The Martian will invade movie theaters on Friday, October 2.
