The next entry of Universalâs beloved franchise â that doesnât involve cars â Bourne has been up in the air for a while. Originally, plans were in place for Jeremy Renner to fully take over the franchise with arcs started in The Bourne Legacy, but then something amazing happened. Universal reportedly convinced Paul Greegrass to return to the franchise, and with him, series star Matt Damon. Rumor then became fact in September when deadline reported the deal to be a go. But still, after all this time, thereâs been no actual confirmation from Damon or Greegrass on the matter⦠until now.
During an E! red carpet interview with the actor and longtime friend Ben Affleck, Damon stated, âit’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.â
And just like that, Jason Bourneâs resurrection to the big screen became a locked in reality. As for what the actual plot of the film will entail is being kept under wraps, as well as whether or not Jeremy Renner will play any sort of role in it (rumor has it Renner is being left out of the 2016 film in order to build buzz for a team-up film with Damon later on). Whatever the case may be though, itâs nice to know Damon is finally speaking publically on the matter and getting everyone excited for 2016. Now, as for which of the dynamic Boston duo that is Affleck and Damon will have bigger muscle come release time, thatâs anyoneâs guess.
