The Jason Bourne franchise has been one full of ups and downs since its inception. First there was the departure of original director Doug Liman for current director Paul Greengrass, then there was the never-ending battle between writer Tony Gilroy with Damon and Greengrass that led to massive re-writes on The Bourne Ultimatum, which of course was later followed by the departure of Damon and Greengrass, who were replaced by Gilroy and Jeremy Renner for The Bourne Legacy. But, as of this past summer, it seems things are back on track with a new Damon-starring/Greengrass-directed Bourne set to hit theaters in 2016 â but thereâs a lingering question nowâ¦
What has become of Rennerâs Aaron Cross?
For a while, thereâs been some speculation that Bourne and Cross would meet up in the next film. However, that speculation has been officially put to rest thanks to a new interview with producer Frank Marshall for Collider.com. âWe donât have plans for that,â Marshall stated. âYou never know. I never say never. But thatâs not the plan. Theyâre on separate tracks.â
And there you have it⦠we guessâ¦
The thing about Frank Marshall is heâs no stranger to denial as he originally denied Damon and Greengrass were even returning when the news broke in the summer of 2014 â he waited until the official studio statement dropped to release details. So everything he says concerning the franchise needs to be taken with a grain of salt. But, honestly, weâll look for any excuse to believe Renner and Damon will be teaming up at some point in the future.
