MARY POPPINS RETURNS Teaser Debuts a New Song

It’s been months since I visited the set of Mary Poppins Returns, but I’ve had snippets of the two songs I heard that day in my head ever since. Seriously. The newest teaser for Disney‘s sequel to their 1964 film showcases more whimsy, more of Mary Poppins’ (Emily Blunt) special touch, and a piece of the long-lasting earworm “Can You Imagine That?” Watch and listen:

“Some stuff and nonsense could be fun.” Yes to that, Mary Poppins. The sequel, set some 25 years after the events of the first film, sees Mary return to bring joy to the Banks family–much as she did in the past. The now adult Michael has lost his wife and is struggling with being a single father. But stuff and nonsense could help the family find their way.

The other song I can’t get out of my head is “Trip a Little Light Fantastic.” It’s the lamplighters’ tune that goes with the scene of leerie (lamplighters) dancing at the end of the teaser; it’s led by Jack, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s character. And though we didn’t get to listen to every track in the upcoming movie, we did get a look at song titles:

  • “Under the Lovely London Sky”
  • “The Place Where Lost Things Go”
  • “Can You Imagine That?”
  • “The Royal Doulton Music Hall” (this is the one with the animated sequence)
  • “A Cover Is Not the Box”
  • “Trip a Little Light Fantastic”
  • “Nowhere to Go But Up”
  • “Turning Turtle”

Mary Poppins Returns will premiere on December 19, 2018.
